I'm 4 episodes in, but I think that the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is pretty damn funny. Then again, I really liked Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (yup, I was the one).

Mrs. Maisel is a great show. Rachel Brosnahan is fantastic.

In other standup news, we saw TJ Miller from Silicon Valley recently. Meh.

Just saw Nick Offerman live, kinda theatrical (one man show style) but really smart and funny.

First thing he did was ask anyone who brought their kids (maybe 4 or 5 people) to cover their kids ears and said (paraphrasing) “what the fuck are you thinking? I am not Ron Swanson, and this isnt the parks and rec live show. Im going to talk about sex and drugs. A lot.”

When I did a Jeff Foxworthy show, his sound guy sound checked with a vocal only version of “enjoy the silence” by depeche mode. Said he scored it from some dude behind a 7/11.

OK--had to read through the whole thread and make sure I wasn't duplicating anyone else.

I love smart comedians. I mean, most have to be pretty intelligent to parse the language the was they do, but there are some who are clearly a cut above. My favorites in that vein are probably Greg Proops, Demetri Martin, Myq Kaplan, and The Sklar Brothers. I'm also a big fan of Todd Barry's slow, dry style.

My man - Greg Proops is coming to town in about two months - he's doing a live podcast on the 8th of march, and then 3 days of shows. I'm thinking about goin to this for sure:

AND, if your wallet can handle it. Demetri Martin is in town two weeks later:

Wish I'd have known about these a couple weeks ago--I would most assuredly have received tickets for Christmas. Been so long since I've actually gone to a comedy club (my wife isn't really into stand-up), I never actually check their schedules.

Given the choice between the two, I'm probably more interested in Demetri. Thanks for the heads up on these.

You are not the only one. I liked both of these shows as well.

I saw him at a Whose Line is it Anyway show a while back and he was easily the funniest.

Proops did a stand up set when I saw him 15 years ago opening for WLIIA... raunchy as hell. LOL. But it was smart.

Interesting....

My father and I had tickets to go see Mitch Hedberg years ago, but on the week of the show, he had to go out of town on business, and we found out that the place he was doing stand-up at was a bar, and I wasn't quite 21 yet.

Sure wish that had worked out. That guy was something special. RIP.

Holy SHIT the new 2 Dave Netflix specials are HILARIOUS!!

He's thinking about quitting comedy. I think he's serious. Fucking KILLS ME...

...did I already say Bill Hicks yet?! :dunno: This is the guy Dennis Leary stole a lot of material from.

Bill Burr, Norm MacDonald, Patton Oswalt, Jim Jefferies, and Louis CK are some of my favorites. Eddie Izzard's old special 'Dressed to Kill' is one of my all-time favorites as well.

Bill Burr's spontaneous rant directed at a Philadelphia crowd after they were booing the comedian that was on before him is hilarious and took guts. Image quality is poor in this video but still worth a watch if you haven't yet.
