As the Captain has now turned 40 what's your favorite moment in his Yankee career. There's the obvious like homer for hit #3000, the flip play, his 2000 WS MVP performance and the dive into the stands against the Red Sox. That being said there might be some others.

...gonna be hard to top this;

The day he hands me a check for a million bucks, lol!

You pretty much noted my favorite Jeter Moments....

#1- The Flip/Toss, to nail Giambi at Home Plate, classic never seen a play like it MLB History.

#2- Incredible running catch into the Stands vs. Bosox in YS...Wow..!

Of course, the other two are already noted, the 2000 W.S. MVP performance, and his 3000 hit, a Classic Momentous HR...

It is hard to top those 4....got to put my mind to some of those other great plays, over the last 20 yrs...

Good stuff, good post....!!! I look forward to others tagging this post...!

This would be my favorite but a very close 2nd is the day he hit #3000 because of the way it was done. 5 for 5 & #3000 being a HR.

As much, I will miss Derek's patented Pirouette throws from the hole on the 3rd base side of SS.

Tho' others have done as much, I can't recall ANY SS who utilized the pirouette throw as gracefully, and accurately as our Captain...

A GREAT Speech, and very SAD moment, (depending on how you look at it, the end of a EPIC Era, or beginning of a New Era)....

The speech could of not been any better, unless Derek spoke and gave "The Speech" in English, Spanish, and Japanese....!

while standing on his head, for the latter 2 languages....:breakdance:

Having a hard time deciding between the flip & the dive....

Hey Steve, hope all is going well with the miss's & the new addition.

Steve'O- when was the last time you got a good long nights sleep, uninterrupted...? :moresleep:

Just curious, hoping your not running on Fumes...! Take good care of each other...!

I am beat.... but doing well... My beautiful bride takes the night shift. I unfortunately need to go back to work tomorrow morning.... I need to awaken for work between 4 & 4:30am... so that's when it's going to get really challenging.... Ya know? but the little miss is doing well!

Ah, return to work....its always the most valuable time to take vacation or maternity leave, (like you did), upon the birth of a new child. Mom always needs help after a C-Section too. Your work at home, during this time, is Honorable Steve.

Enjoy yourself at work too....!

Our work is our daily bread, and butter too.

Another easily forgotten moment by Our Captain, (even made the sports news), was a foul fly ball, Derek caught along the 3rd base fences, up against the seats. Two Men held their hand out, and one tried to take the ball from Derek.

Derek being too quick, pulled his hand away, and kept motioning to a little young girl sitting in the row behind the two burly dudes. Once she saw Derek motion to her, he tossed the ball over the mens heads, into her glove....A Precious Keepsake from a Class Act HOF'er, 2 be...!

You'll have to find the clip of that one Rob, I'd love to see it.

Seems like only yesterday.

I know you feel the same way Rick, as:
It's scary (at this age) just how fast time flies, and yes it did seem like only a couple years ago.....

I have always been told by older peeps, the older you get the faster time flies, last guy to tell me that was 87 years old, and was gone a year latter. Damn was he ever right...!

For the previous mention of Jeter's Farwell Speech in Old YS - (Thanks Totus Tom) .... here it is....You Tube video at end of thread....

ny_jeter_19_800.jpg

"From all of us up here, it's a huge honor to put this uniform on every day and come out here and play," Jeter said. "Every member of this organization, past and present, has been calling this place home for 85 years. There's a lot of tradition, a lot of history and a lot of memories. The great thing about memories is you're able to pass them along from generation to generation.

"Although things are going to change next year and we're going to move across the street, there are a few things with the New York Yankees that never change. That's pride, tradition, and most of all, we have the greatest fans in the world. We're relying on you to take the memories from this stadium and add them to the new memories we make at the new Yankee Stadium and continue to pass them on from generation to generation. We just want to take this moment to salute you, the greatest fans in the world."

The crowd erupted, cheering Jeter as he led his teammates around the field one last time. After the lap, players lingered on the field, not wanting to leave. Several collected dirt from the mound, others took pictures with family, friends and teammates, but every one of them seemed touched by Jeter's words.

"He represents everything that it is to be a Yankee," Jason Giambi said. "From Joe D to Mickey, he represents the pinstripes."

"I don't know how anyone could do it any better than he did it," Joe Girardi said. "I thought it was perfect. To come from him, and how he's grown up in this organization and knowing how he feels about playing here in front of the New York fans, he was absolutely right in everything he said."
