The Miller addition seems to be working well so far. Even before we signed him I had posted a few times that we should be looking to bring to bring in an older more experienced pg every few years instead of trying to develop one from the draft. If it happens great but I think there are a few of you who were? still are? worried about getting a starting pg for this teams entire (potentially long) championship window.

In 3yrs from now when Miller is most likely gone I don't see us looking to fill the void with a rookie or Blake and with 3 max/near max contracts (Roy, LMA, Oden) I don't see us signing a D.Williams/Chris Paul tier of pg.

Who will be our next Favre? Who will be our next pg who is nearing the end of their career who wants to come here for a shot at a ring?

Since Favre already won a ring.. I am gonna say Billups.. even though he already won one.

Bayless might be the future, if he has the patience. Could be a long wait though.

So, looking for a PG who is currently between 27-31 and is starting caliber? There aren't many to choose from. Baron Davis, Chris Duhon, Jose Calderon, and Tony Parker are the only ones I can find in that age range.

I just don't see Bayless ever being the facilitator that this talented roster needs.

If Bayless can be half a PG.. then We'll be ok. since Roy is already half a PG, then add Roy's abilities as a SG and add the other half of Bayless as a Scorer.. we'll be ok.

That's what I was thinking when I was writing this post. There seems to have been a bit of a talent void for a few years when it comes to pgs. You have your Kidd-Nash era and then the D.Will CP3 era.

I bet you won't be saying that after this season. Wait till we see Roy and Miller get comfortable together. Then we'll half a full pg in Miller and a half a pg in Roy.

1 1/12 pgs > 1 pg.

Yes I do like What Miller will do with that.. but also its cause he can help and attack as well. But to me Miller is an obvious upgrade because he can attack and be a general. If we can find one of those out of the ones mentioned.. then yes its an upgrade to Bayless... but if not Bayless is our best option. cause then it will be

1 1/2 SGs> .75 of a PG (someone like Blake) :)

You know at the first preseason game Oden had a really nice assist to LMA. Maybe he'll be .25 of a pg.

And Batum played a little pg in the Euro championships. That's got to be worth .25 of a pg also.

So a line up of Miller, Roy, Batum, LMA and Oden would be a SG, SF, PF, C and 2 point guards!! So we'd have 5 players out on the court but they would be playing like they 6 players. That's crazy! I wonder if we could play with 2 basketballs? We'll see what happens in Memphis, with AI and Zbo on the same team they're going to have to play with two basketballs if anyone else wants to ever attempt a shot.

I believe Nate already experimented with 6 players before. It works!

lol well now you are going crazy. Thats just crazy talk. But in all seriousness, Bayless is at least a projected as part a PG.

There is this guard in Memphis that I kinda like. I think Oden likes him too. hehehehe

That guard is retired, we already have a coach - and quite frankly, haven't we learned from Damon's first stint here?

Yes, we learned not to wrap your dope in aluminum foil and then try and take it through airport security.

Yeah, that's it. A recurring nightmare I have is hearing that Paul Allen bought a train for the team... :devilwink:

-Baron Davis
-Jose Calderon
-Raymond Felton
-Mike Conley
-Monta Ellis

He'll be a free agent that year.

But he'll also be 36. At that point we might sign him as a backup, if he's still able to play. Or we could just re-sign Miller for that role of veteran backup, since he'll be the same age. I doubt we want either as a starter.

The best PG off the top of my head who will be in that window of 31-34 years old in 2012 is Baron Davis. I really don't like the way he'd fit on this team, and I don't know that he'll age gracefully (only 4 of his 10 seasons so far has he played more than 65 games).

I thought of B-diddy too.. and I HATE how he would fit with this team.. I agree. I thought we were talking about aging vets who would wanna catch on for one last ride. Tahts why I thought of Billups.

I really like Billups and I was really disappointed when Denver got him. He would have been perfect for this team. IMO, if we had Billups last year we would have beaten Houston in the first round.

But in 3 years from now I'm not sure how much he'll have left in the tank. You would want him to play at the same level with the same energy that Miller is now. He's a true pro but he's already gotten his ring. Of course more championships would be nice for him but that drive to finally get a ring before retiring is a very nice motivational kick in the ass.

I still have a feeling on Patty Mills.

Could Brett Favre play point guard? If so, how much would he cost and could he coexist with Roy?

It's probably just gas.

As for who the "Future Mr. Point Guard" should be on this team when Miller's contract/usefulness expire? I think it's impossible to say for sure who would be truly available. I kind of like what Conley was able to accomplish once Lionel Hollins took over the Grizz and he turned the reins completely over to MC, I also think there are some other guys that might be semi-available in a couple of years that would be able to fit the "young vet" mold; presumably Rubio will be coming to America at that time and either Minnesota tries to move him or they make one of Flynn or Sessions available in trade. I also think Mario Chalmers has a chance to turn into something pretty good (but I can't imagine why Miami would let him go if he does).

The rest of the cast of usual suspects (Felton, Bibby, Baron, etc.) don't really excite me all that much, but presumably this team should be in the thick of competing for conference and NBA championships, so maybe attracting a quality older one for the MLE is a possibility.

Lastly, of course there's the elusive and enigmatic Mr. Bayless. Is he really capable of adding the playmaking skills to his game that will compliment all of the scoring talent on this team? I still think it's possible with a TON of work and a little bit of a minor miracle, but I doubt the stars are going to align for him and for this team in quite the way we would hope.

If I really try to look into my crystal ball, the most likely scenario I can see is KP trying to trade Rudy in two summers (and probably some other player) to Minnesota for Ramon Sessions. :dunno:

my longshot pick is TP. In a couple years when Timmy and Manu fall off and they're clearly outside their championship window, I could see them dealing TP to Portland for multiple assets as part of turning over their club. He's 27 this year.

STOMP

I certainly wouldn't complain about that.
