Free Agent Female squash stars furious after getting vibrators as tournament prize

I filled in on a City men's Softball team for one game when I was back in town on leave from the Navy (way back). They were the raining State Champions that year or maybe the previous year. Geez I sure picked the wrong time to fill in! They were playing a woman team, the World Champions running for several years.
Portland Oregon's Irv Lin Florists, Women's World Champions. Damn! They had two pitchers, Betty Lin Davis and Mazuka. Betty had a wicked high velocity curve ball, and Mazuka had a bazooka for an arm. Just so damn fast that no one on the men's team got more that an occasional peace of the ball.
I thought it was cool, those ladies were really phenomenal. The ump called the game, "no contest" when we went down 5 to nothing. It was charitable.

Wouldn't they be a little less mad if they used it?

Perhaps, but I suppose it depends on a number of factors. I was sort of thinking about Musuka when I wrote the above.
I am not sure I would want to be the putz tabbed to hand Masuka the vibrator. I am not sure at all what she might have decided to do with it.

Women are hosting and attending sex toy evening's, in the home, like they would Tupperware, Jewelry or Perfume. My wife has been to a couple and said the gals have a super time.
Majority of gals aren't as inhibited as you think, they like us guys to think so though.
Hell, now days guys go to wedding & baby showers! Never been to one in my life!

yeah but if their coach or head of marketing is making this choice, it's a bit different from a "girls night out party"

Does the fact that it was a sex-object company (Durex) sponsoring and providing the gift enter into consideration at all? Or as a tournament organizer, are they duty-bound to decline all potential advertising revenue from sex-based businesses when women are involved?

I missed that. All bets are off now. Unless that was the ONLY prize they got.

Companies that sponsor events give away thier products as prizes almost 100% of the time.

If the squash teams don't like the prizes then maybe they should put more care into who is running/sponsoring the event and not participate in those they believe could have controversy?

So on this same theme then would it be wrong for say... Charmin to give away lifetime supply of TP to a winner?

Or Crest to provide a case of toothpaste?

sorry @Spud147 I agree with what you said, but the sponsor is a sexual toy company. Gifts from the company to the winner I would assume would be freebies form the sponsor. Hence, toys. If it were a men's competition, cock rings and condoms... I dunno, but The sponsor has to be taken into consideration when trying to admonish such a prize/gift.

You are obviously not a woman.

Last time I looked anyhow. :)

I dont assume to know how it feels, but in a world where women want equality(justifiably so) then they must accept equal treatment.

If it was anything OTHER than a sex company sponsoring, then I totally get it and I would be livid if I were them. But since its a sexual company sponsoring it, how naive is it to think you wont receive sexual gifts for winning?

I mean really?

If it were a men's tournament sponsored by the same company there would probably be guys running around with full sized condoms on their bodies and get a lifetime supply of condoms. Is that wrong?

If not, then why is it wrong to gift the female the same? Or does equal rights and treatment now come with asterisks?

All things must be considered before claiming sexism, racism, etc. The fact this was endorsed and sponsored by a company that produces sex toys either should have raised the women's eyebrows and they could have inquired prior to entering.

I see no issue with this.

However, I hope they dont double down. the right thing would be to now, apologize and state it was ignorance and the prizes were gifts from the sponsor and nothing more, no harm meant and all parties should move on.

Lesson learned, but I don't think ti was as egregious an act as being portrayed.

It was pretty egregious.

It was pretty egregious.

Fair enough. I think there really isn't a right or wrong on something like this, more of a .. "both sides are a bit ignorant" type of issue and its 100% opinion based as to how insulting it is.

The teams should have paid more attention to who was the sponsor and inquired about such potential things that might offend them.

The sponsor should have taken the day and age into account before just handing things out. Even if they felt it was okay, they should run the possible outcomes, prior to giving out the awards and how potential backlash could ensue, if they receievers were insulted, rightly or not.

To me, almost not newsworthy, but will be made a bigger deal than it is, because social media and the public in general, loves to fixate on opinion based offenses in an ever increasingly sensitive society, instead of the things that are a clear and present danger to ourselves, our families and our freedoms.

I was given condoms from a sexual toy sponsor for winning an event... soooo what.

I was given a vibrator as an award for winning from a sexual toy sponsor. Sooooo what.....

If I was a female, I feel I would say the same. Just asked my wife making us coffee, if she would have been insulted. She said she would have laughed and given it to her sister, then asked for her real prize.

Its all in the eye of the beholder and what they choose to let ruffle their feathers.

Ill say this. Again.

Maybe a gift card to their store might have been a bit more appropriate. LOL.

But this is the key. Should we live our lives walking on thin ice trying to avoid insulting people on every corner of every turn, or do we just live our lives and let those who feel insulted let us know and respect that and try to avoid it in the future?

I know I have been brought up to be aware of others' feelings and do unto other's etc. But as I get older, I see more and more people being more and more offended about things, I personally think are ridiculous. where is the line drawn where the offended is out of line vs the offender, because what the offended finds insulting is not rational?

For example. i'm dealing with my father's drinking, which is getting over the top. We had a text exchange the other day when I was at work and one of his texts came to me as " Do you cars?"

I responded, " You aren't really making sense."

He didn't respond. Instead when I came home and had forgotten about it and sat down to talk to him about his brother who had visited him earlier in the day, he told me he was insulted that I had told him he doesn't make sense. I said "that insulted you???????"
He had obviously been fuming over it all day.
I had to walk away because I could tell he was drunk and no matter what I said, it wasn't going to go well.

Now alcohol has an obvious factor in my scenario, but regardless, there are people who are irrationally insulted in today's world and there has to be a point to draw the line and say, you know what? I don't care. You are being irrational.

Maybe they'll look for a gender neutral brand as a sponsor next time. Something like a 20 bar pack of Irish Spring soap complete with a slogan, "Now, you too can keep yourself smelling fresh and clean after every event!"

I'd say they should just do like I do. When the Snap on tool people give me their printed ads I throw them right in the garbage while they are still there.

The Matco guy would ask if I wanted it or to put it directly in the trash. Loved that guy. Bought 2 or 3 things from him over the years.

This thread does remind me of something that happened at work recently. We hired a kinda trashy young white girl to be the shop helper. She would make a truck driver blush with some of the things she would say.

She said something nasty in front of me and I started to respond in kind and stopped and said NEVERMIND.

She said I could say whatever I wanted in front of her. I told her she'd have to put that in writing and then I'd think about it.

That's the world now.

Luckily she quit so I don't have to worry about it.

Restraint! Wise choice.

It sucks because it was just people trying to be funny. Sure it was low brow and crass humor but that's all it would have been.......

I've seen too many backstabbers before to get involved in that. I worked with two guys who were friends but got heated with each other and talked shit for years.

One day they both got really mad and said the same stuff they always said to each other and one got butthurt and went to HR.

They'd said that stuff back and forth for years, luckily for the one who wasn't a rat everyone interviewed backed that up. He'd have probably been fired otherwise.

We had a young lady going to Cornell studying engineering who worked in our office one Summer. Her father was the president of Snap-On tools, which our company was the parent of that company. The lead engineer in our office talked her into stealing the calendar off her dad's office wall and gave it to us. They do make excellent tools. Oh, and their calendars were entertaining also.

But that first crime set her on the wrong path. She fell in with a bad crowd, dropped out of school, did a lot of meth and a couple of stints in prison, and later died in a drug deal gone bad. She was 29.

Actually, I, an experienced engineer doing some important work on a battle vehicle used in the first Gulf War, was assigned to drop what I was doing and assist her on her senior project. The hell with that shit. I just ignored it and completed my task on a very important tank killer vehicle. I got the word that my boss wanted to talk to me but before we sat down for our talk I took an even more important job working for Boeing while building nuclear missiles, a cruise missile and the V-22 Osprey. I got out of that hell hole St. Louis and moved to beautiful Seattle. What happened to our president's daughter? Last I heard she took to taking meth and led a life of serious crime.

They make 15 thousand dollar metal dressers. Yep, they sell metal boxes that cost more than a brand new Nissan Versa (a shitty car but still..a CAR)

And their tools have fallen in quality in many cases.

WTF?

Is this supposed to be humor?
Or just virtue signaling ?

Their calendars have fallen in quality too. Thanks liberals
You can blame me. I told them that I can't stand beautiful young women scantily clad in a calendar.
I think the president's name was Staley. He's probably long since retired so he can't be blamed for any decline that may have happened. I think he must be in his 80s.
I also recall that they had an Indy race car and driver they maintained. We even got to see the backup race car and their driver, Roberto Guerrero. They brought the car and driver right to our plant in Ferguson. That was part of our Engineers' Club of St. Louis. We got to see a lot of cool stuff because all engineers at Emerson Electric.
I goofed, Emerson did not own Snap-On, they owned Ridgid Tools which made the tools sold by Sears, Roebuck and Company. I just looked it up and refreshed my memory.

Give me a break. By your standards, I'm a dinosaur. My niece says I was born before electricity.

One of my former coworkers had 2 snap on clocks with topless women on them. One of them had what I considered maybe a 5 out of 10 setup.

It reminded me of Seinfeld when Elaine judged guys on sponge worthiness. This girl wasn't clock material.

I wouldn't dare judge but she took money for it so it seems fair.
