Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry will meet with Portland Trail Blazers officials to discuss the franchise’s GM vacancy on Wednesday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Since Yahoo! Sports reported on June 5 that the Blazers had hired a search firm to identify and feel out potential candidates, Ferry has steadily stayed near the top of Portland’s wish list.

The Blazers reached out to several GM candidates, but Ferry and the organization have strong shared interest, sources said. It’s unclear if the Blazers plan to bring other candidates to Portland.

My greatest fear about an incoming GM is that he'll try and make a "stamp" when he gets here, probably by trading away a fan favorite or something for less than he's worth. If he trades Oden, well, I'd start a one man riot.

Ferry will have considerably less pressure here than he had in Cleveland, IMO. I don't think he did a bad job in Cleveland at all. He surrounded "the best player in the NBA" with plenty of talent. Unfortunately for Ferry their coach was an idiot and LeBron isn't a true Alpha Killer like Kobe. I don't blame Ferry for Cleveland's inability to win it all. But I do give him credit for them having the best record in the NBA last year. I'd be ok with Ferry. Despite his name. Haha..

Please, Kobe's not even close to Lebron right now. He gets patted on the back when he has a 24-4-4 40% chokage against the Thunder. In case you forgot he played like shit in the regular season and LA still won 57 games.

Ferry's the idiot that kept Mike Brown in charge. He approved of that coach and he was content with keeping a choker like Mo on his roster (take a look at his playoff production). That supporting cast was not built for the playoffs, or past their prime (Antawn).

LeBron James
548 Games Played
339 Games Won
LeBron James' Win Percentage = .618
Cavs win percentage without LeBron James = .384 (26 Games)
Difference = .234
--> huge difference

Kobe Bryant
1021 Games Played
676 Games Won
Kobe Bryant's Regular Season Win Percentage = .662
Lakers Win Percentage Without Kobe Bryant = .604 (95 games)
Difference = .058
--> barely a difference when Shannon Brown or whoever plays instead of Kobe

I wonder if Ferry has any connections to Lebron? He surely knows him, don't ya think?

Mike Brown was an excellent coach during the regular season and the previous years in the playoffs. Far better than Nate, anyway. He just choked this year because he didn't have the balls to not play Shaq instead of Hickson. He lost the respect of his team after that.

Yeah Jamison and Shaq had played a combined zero minutes together, before the playoffs. Then the defensive issues in the front court began.

He failed in recognizing defensive matchups. Should have benched Shaq for Andy more often.

Strange that they can't wait one more day....I thought his Cavs contract is over come Thursday.

Just heard Bonzi's comin' back to!

If the team regresses at all, it's Ferry's fault. Less pressure nationally? Sure. More pressure locally? I say so.

Plus, he'd likely be making 4x what Pritchard was making.

I'll give Ferry a chance here if he's hired. He was pressured into a win-now mode in Cleveland, and had to take some big risks in a small window to try to keep LeBron around. I'm sure he won't run amok and try to change everything here. He has experience making trades and dealing with FAs, and that's the direction the Blazers are heading into now. We could do a lot worse.. and we're not going to get a Sam Presti or RC Buford anyway.

See, that's all I needed to read. This isn't supposed to be a Kobe vs LeBron debate, but anyone that actually has WATCHED their careers, and seen what they've done in clutch situations, knows LeBron is not a killer. Definitely not even close to Kobe. Kobe has made a million more big shots that have led to huge wins than LeBron has even dreamed about making. And you know it's true. In fact - it's a fact. LeBron is a freak of nature that does things that no one has ever been able to do. He's Karl Malone meets Magic Johnson. Amazing. But he ain't a killer. Not like Jordan or Kobe. And I honestly believe that is why he hasn't won a ring. Not because of Ferry's inability to surround him with talent.

We'll see what Miller and Allen say when Ferry demands complete control. I still don't think he ends up here.

Wouldn't this be true with any GM we hire? No matter who becomes our GM, they will be under a massive LOCAL microscope. Way more than KP ever dealt with. Nationally? Not so much. Especially for Ferry who was tasked with surrounding LeBron with enough talent. Ferry went for it. He pushed all his chips in with Cleveland. He's the fall guy. But he's not the reason they didn't win a ring this year. At least not in my eyes. I've seen enough from LeBron to know that he will need a Wade-type killer to get him to the promised land. He has no guts when it counts.

What is the bad move or moves that Ferry has done for everyone to consider him a bad GM?

He was GM for 5 years, and he inherited LeBron James. Small window?

What?

Ferry didn't seal the Stoudemire deal that was assumed closed at the All-Star break last year. He panicked and got Jamison on a terrible contract. Cleveland is now screwed because of that deal and that contract. May as well bring back Bob Whitsitt. At least Bob swung for the fences.

Well, the last couple years after LBJ signed his extension, he's made some desperation moves bringing in Wally/Big Ben, Shaq, Jamison, etc. is what I'm talking about. He was in a win-now mode.
