Should we be surprised/disappointed Sharpe isn't on the Canada team and and Rupert isn't on the french team?
Is Scoot likely to get invited in a couple years to compete on the Olympic squad?

Reath, Thybulle on Australia, potential targets Jovic for Serbia, Edy Tavares for Cape Verde. Flier big Usman Garuba will be a depth piece for Spain.

Rupert is way too raw and I bet Shaedon declined an invitation because he declined an invitation an entire year to play for Kentucky.

Apparently Cade Cunningham kicked Team USA's ass, so I'm kind of glad no Blazers are on it

I don’t know if Shaedon was invited or not. I’m sure he’ll be on the national team in the future if he wants to be though.

Living in Canada I can tell for certain Shaedon Sharpe was not invited to play for Canada’s FIBA team. Neither was Benedict Mathurin. Canada pulled this roster together two years ago and asked the players to make a three-year commitment to get them through the FIBA Worlds and the ‘24 Paris Olympics. It’s one of the reasons why Andrew Wiggins isn’t playing either because he was unwilling to make that long term commitment due to family reasons. Shaedon and Benedict were both in college at the time so were unknowns and hence weren’t considered, especially with the depth at the wing positions.

Don’t read into WHO is playing WHERE. Have you seen our US roster, shit they got beat by the practice squad TWICE already down in Vegas. Hell I could play for whatever the fuck Cape Verde is.

Watching this and I thought I saw our Murray (46 in grey). Of course it was Keegan, which led me to wonder what would it take to get them to Parent Trap it?

We have a Murray on our team?

Thybulle is definitely playing. Reath is in camp, but may not make the final roster, depends on the play style the coach is after. Former Blazers Patty Mills and Joe Ingles will definitely make the roster as grizzled vets.

Both the Canadian and French teams are loaded. No room for our unproven youngins yet.

Thybulle is playing for Australia though.

Correct, Reath is on the initial expanded roster.

Spain currently leading USA 65-64. I almost didn't recognize Rudy and Claver in the new black-and-gold

Funnily enough I recognized Rudy by the way he moved before I saw his face.

This US team has zero size. Lithuania should have fun if they play them.

Probably several teams they face will have a better #1 player than the US team. Possibly one or two will have better #2, but nobody will have better #3-12 or 15 or whatever.
I agree with this.
Just watched their first game....Puerto Rico hung for far too long.
Not sure they will win gold next summer if they run this talent level out.

The whole, "can't wait to watch true team players, not stars play" crowd better come correct. The world is catching up and we can't put 2nd stringers out there anymore.

Harden will hold out to be traded to Serbia.

Former Trail Blazer Wenyen Gabriel played for South Sudan against Brazil yesterday in Melbourne.

Current Blazer Matisse Thybulle, former Blazers Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, and summer league Blazer Duop Reath all played in Australia’s 97-41 victory over Venezuela.

Josh Giddey (and Venezuela’s ineptitude) made Reath look like the second coming of Hakeem Olajuwon, top scoring with 26 (86%). Giddey almost had a triple double in only 24 minutes with 14 (71%)/8/9.

I'm annoyed at Josh Giddey being good because it means that OKC won't trade for Dame and give us a pile of those sweet sweet draft picks. But I'm still not sure that SGA and Giddey are a good combination.

Nice up and under layup by Tisse at 4:21

Australia very slow out of the blocks, and kept bricking wide open threes, whilst Brazil hit contested threes. I’m not worried about that stuff, we’ll work it out before the real games start. I am concerned about our pick and roll defence however. We were showing hard, and when the corner defenders helped Brazil had wide open threes. We’ll be destroyed if we defend like that at the World Cup.

Watching that I kept hearing Bruno Caboclo mentioned. Remember when he was supposed to be the Next Giannis? Well, apparently he played well in (checks notes) Germany last year...

Much better performance against South Sudan. Tisse top scored with 17 @ 75% including 5/6 from three (he was 5/5 at one point), in only 15 minutes. Reath scored 15 @ 75% in 16 minutes. Having Tisse, Green, and Exum on court at the same time was great defensively, and very fun watching them run and gun.

About a third of the South Sudanese players grew up in Australia, but chose to represent their birth country (about half if you include injured players not on the roster). The 16 year old Khaman Maluach looks exciting.

Unfortunately the one thing you don't want happening in a warm up game happened, with Jock Landale going down with a bad ankle roll. Looks like he'll at least miss the World Cup, waiting on scans to see just how bad it is. Don't look if you're squeamish.

Worf: Captain, I don’t think it’s supposed to bend that way.
