I like that Nico is easing himself into game shape playing limited minutes for France. I think he's mentoring the young guys along with Diaw more than anything. Pretty sure France knows they're not winning a title this year.

Given that France has to play today, I'm sure they were resting Batum as much as possible.

Harsh:
Croatia over France
Amid speculation that the Croatian players are turning on Coach Repesa, the last thing they need on their plate right now is the reigning European champions. Despite having two of the tournament’s brightest young stars in Sixers stash Dario Saric and Nets rookie Bojan Bogdanovic, the Croatians have underperformed thus far.
Which is exactly why they are going to blow France out of the water in this matchup. Saric and Bogdanovic are two of the most competitive players in Europe, and both of them are going to come out with a “Bleep You” type game that is sure to get them over the hump against the French side.
While France has played solid thus far, it is without Tony Parker, the type of leader it takes to get over the top. Their depth is nice, and NBA forwards Boris Diaw and Nicolas Batum are great co-stars. But this team has nobody cast in the lead, and it doesn’t look like this movie is going to last much longer than opening weekend.

Players who should be signed by NBA teams on the strength of their performance in the WC:

Miroslav Raduljica (can't understand why the Clips waived him)
Andray Blatche (if only he weren't such a flake)
Hamad Haddadi (slow as molasses but vacuums up the rebounds)
Petteri!!! (if he had a slightly more reliable jump shot, or Rudy's hops, he'd be here already)

Of course there's always:
"Marcelinho" Huertas
Milos Teodosic
Giannis Bourousis

But those guys seem content to earn big bucks playing for the Euroleague giants.
(Talking of whom: I would bet big bucks that Real Madrid would beat the 76ers handily in a 7 game series. It wouldn't be close. I'm not prepared to say that they could be a playoff team in the East, but it wouldn't amaze me.)

17-18 and the half is almost over. Sheesh!

On the plus side, half the (small) stadium is empty, so hardly anybody is feeling cheated.

France leads 23-22... at HALF TIME. Batum is pretty much invisible on offense, but he's working hard on defense.

The Croats should be better than this - they've got some talented players.

Gustavo Ayon scored 25 points against Team USA. Get that man an NBA contract!

Batum's invisible in Europe and the NBA. There must be somewhere where he's worth $12M per year.

France up 40-30.

Maybe in Casablanca. Bogie fouled Batum who was bringing it downcourt. Bogdanovich has weight and looks ready for the NBA right now.

Wow, that is a bad-looking mascot.

Who owns Bogie's rights? He plays defense and shoots the long ball. Too late for us to get him?

Flurry of points by Croatia - Bogdanovic is a player. Rookie for the Nets next year.

Tomic is mobile, which big men have to be in international play. Much better than Gobert. Half of NBA big men aren't elastic enough to help the U.S. team.

What's the smoke? Fans lit a fire?

Oh, the colors reversed on my semi-legal connection for a few seconds.

Yep, I see what you mean. Batum's playing defense, not so hot on shooting.
