Big protest today in Dublin over plans to reopen closed women's prison and use it to lock up immigrants. We started on one corner, then two, then all four. We had no permit for street protest so rally security volunteers, including yours truly, had to keep it on sidewalks. Four Trump supporters showed up. Outnumbered about 100 to one. They stood on island with flags. A woman started screaming at them, we persuaded her to concentrate on our message.
Security volunteers stay on until crowd disperses because problems are actually more likely to happen when rally breaks up and someone wants to scrape with counter protesters. Glad crowd was enthused enough to stick around singing and chanting but oi feet hurt and needed to pee.
Always a bit of family reunion atmosphere. Hey, didn't I see you at [insert name of protest]. Singing songs I heard in my cradle.
