Yup. 1.6 less than Richards. If we let Richards go, we would have to spend 4 mill + to get someone to replace him. And odds are they would not be much better. And would have to acclimate to NY. And it was a risk that we would get someone good.

We did what we needed to do. That is why Richards was a tossup either way.

Hockey free agency is out of control. Not different from baseball, but no cap in baseball makes it easier to deal with mistakes. In hockey they can crush you. Can't always count on buyouts to help like they did with Redden, Richards next summer, and Bryz for the Flyers.

These guys are hilarious, they hand out these ridiculous contracts and then cry being poor.

Columbus couldnt justify Nash's contract saying they cant afford that and just gave $5.3m ($2.5m less than Nash) to often concussed Horton until he is 37 LOL

That doesn't even mention the ridiculous Minnesota owner crying foul and then giving out $200m to Parise/Suter

It's a cycle that will be repeated

Hockey is a broken sport in many ways. I think it suffers from the fact that they want to be a big boy, but simply aren't the other 3 major sports in America.

The cap in hockey is ridiculous IMO. We'll see if there is a big jump back to the 70 mill range next season. Which BTW would be funny. What were they fighting about again? 1 season of a lower cap?

On top of that, owners cry and then go sign ridiculous deals. NJ has no owner, but 5 mill per for Clowe. Phoenix signs Ribs for good money. Minny is a joke. It really is comical how hockey is run. The biggest issue is there are teams that shouldn't exist. They bring the rest of the league down.

Phoenix should be in Seattle. Maybe bring a team back to Quebec and leave South Florida or Tampa. Stupid stuff.

First opt out I think is 8 years. So we have that long until the next lockout.

And if the cap goes back to 70 mill next season, why did we have to deal with this lockout? So they could limit deals to 8 years max and stop huge upfront payments? Really. Wow. What a broken sport.

This contract was a disgrace. Gave an azzzzclown who scored 9 goals last year 5 million. What a bunch of morons.

9gls last year is almost 20gls over a full year, so nothing wrong with that production wise. $ wise, yea, way too much for him. Though he'll probably just carry the puck into the O zone, pass it to Stamkos and collect the assist.
