FINDING A PF: Number 1 offseason priority

Isaiah Hartenstein seems like an Olshey/Stotts type. He's an athletic, coordinated, big that can shoot, pass, and shows potential on both sides of the ball. He's got a little bit of Nurkic in him (questions about his maturity. He's cocky on the court) but I think with his athleticism, he might be a better bet than Markkanen.

Local product, I like him. I don't like Markennen so it is not close if it were between these two and up to me.

Damn, didn't even know he was born in Oregon. No wonder his English is so good haha. So this is a done deal right?

Btw I like how he is the son of a coach. His fundamentals and feel for the game are definitely advanced for his age imo, so daddy done good.

I personally don't really care about his attitude. He's still a kid and just loves to play. Besides, imagine him partnering up with Nurkic down low. Bad boys 3.

I also don't have concern about maturity when it comes to players we bring in here. I think work ethic is a bigger question because you want guys who are willing to buy into the summer gatherings and increased time spent on the game in the off-season. Dame has the star power and carries himself as well as any star in the league. Our perception of him is not necessarily the same as the perception of a young draft pick who watches the league and looks up to players. Immature and cocky as hell you're not gonna come in and try to create a hostile work environment with a Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, Lebron James, any of the great leaders in the league. Everyone in the locker room would be against you and you'd turn into a Kwame Brown.

Damian Lillard is the only reason I was down to land Boogie here. Dude has something that nobody else on this team has with his leading ability and every team needs a leader. Most of the sports greatest players have been exceptional leaders of their team as well. It's as much of a personality thing as it is a talent thing, we saw that with Aldridge. It's the main reason I would never advocate a trade for Dame. It's also a quality you cannot really recruit.

Which is also why I scoff when I read Denver fans predicting Nurk giving up on Portland like he did Denver.

That prediction doesn't even make sense. Nurkic just needed someone to let him play through his mistakes. Someone to believe in him. He's a human being. In Denver he came into training camp in the best shape of his life, spent his entire summer break getting in shape, earned the starting job, then started getting his minutes cut in November, not even a month into the season. I don't blame him for getting upset, but at the same time I also don't blame Denver because Jokic is a monster in his own right. Props to Denvers scouting department, they found two animals, but you can't keep them caged up oh yah see what I did there good night.

Stotts has definite flaws. Defensive philosophy, or lack their of, being the main one.

That being said. There is no denying players seem to love playing for him because of the freedom he gives his players on offense.

NO said he wanted to create an atmosphere of fun play on the floor where guys would want to come here to play. Stotts is always supportive of his players......."gotta keep shooting", or whatever

Nurk seems to be having fun. He's 22 years old, and slightly immature, according to someone I completely made up. He just wants to play, and because he's got a ton of talent, should play. When Denver basically benched him, he acted like a child......which he all but is

Marvin WIlliams had 12,18, and 8 tonight btw. Played some great defense, had a poster dunk, and was a +35. I probably sound like a broken record by now but this guy could be great for us while we groom our next PF. He's on a Meyers like contract for the next three years and is from the PNW. It just makes so much sense to me in a lot of ways.

Age is the only con but it's not like he's turning 35 next year, he'll be 31. He should still have at least two full seasons of good basketball in him, which may be all we need to groom Leaf, Giles, Williams, Hartenstein or whoever.
I'd love to get Williams here, but what is Charlotte's incentive to part with him, and what would you have Olshey offer? Recall that he signed that Meyers-type deal very early in free agency this past summer--despite being likely worth significantly more--because he really wanted to be in Charlotte. Unless you're offering two first round picks, I don't see much on our roster, considering both production and salary, that is going to be of greater value to Charlotte than Williams is.

His best trait is definitely his ability to level with his players.

I do think sometimes we underestimate how valuable that is.

I don't think it would be easy to pry him away from Charlotte but I think it definitely could be done simple because Charlotte has reached a road block in their development and have seemed to hit their ceiling for the current roster. With that being said if they are looking to improve and build within the roster I would think a guy with maybe a year left in his prime would be someone they would look to deal for some youth and/or picks.

I would definitely do our Cle and Memph picks plus a player. Look, we badly need to shed salary this summer so a deal in which we maybe over compensate a contract like AC's in a deal by adding two picks for a player like Williams who probably won't get return like that around the league would be beneficial imo. Charlotte does need bench scorers, shooters especially. And I don't think you will find an equal value to Marvin in the late first unless you get lucky.

Truth is, we will probably have to make some lopsided deals like that this offseason to improve our cap situation.

TJ Leaf.

We can get him. If we move early enough we can figure out how to get him. We have enough assets.

Sabonis would be perfect for us. Shame he's likely untouchable in OKC.

Unfortunately, we'll be pretty well unable to sign any FA's this summer due to our cap/tax situation. Mini-MLE isn't going to get us much, and we'll have to drop about $20M in salary to even be able to do a sign and trade.
Ya gotta find a taker for that AC contract and get rid of Fes. Rookie year Mirotic was sick. Thought he'd blow up, but that environment in Chi looks toxic.

Is it racist to want a big black, fuck you, I'll take whatever the fuck want on the floor kinda guy?
