Finding Drexler

Maybe I just haven't seen him enough, but I think of DeRozan in the same way as I think of Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, Iggy, Tyreke Evans, etc - if they're a key starter you might win a lot of games, but you're never going to be a serious contender.

I am confused. I guess it depends who he is surrounded by. I get that he did not start all year, but he did in the finals.

I can see Melo getting traded in the next year or two. I've never liked the guy, and have serious reservations about bringing him in, but as of now I think he's the most likely star-caliber player we could trade for.
I absolutely hate Melo man, but you're right

He started 3 games - it was a coaching adjustment. But Iggy was NOT a starter for the Warriors. Throughout his career when he was a starter his teams went nowhere.
Also, the more I think about it the more I find the GSW championship to be the least impressive in recent memory. I put an asterisk next to their's and DAL's championships.

If we drafted a Junior guard in the lottery who came in and averaged 8/3/2 shooting .250 from 3pt in his first season we would probably be very disappointed (yes, that was Drexler). A lot of these guys we are trying out are not much different in age from Drexler his first season. It's all about shots on goal and I think we have some decent candidates.

Pass on Carmelo. Derozan would fit the best age-wise. I don't know if we have the assets to trade for him right now, but if the Blazers end up with a top-4 or so pick in next year's draft, I could see something being worked out.

There's no chance I'd trade a top 4 pick for derozan. Anyways, pretty sure he has a player option for next season, I imagine he'll be opting out and looking for big money. If we want him, we can just sign him.

Honestly, I'd bet he's 50/50 to go back to LA (he's from Compton) and take over for Kobe.

By "work something out", I didn't mean to imply a straight trade for Derozan. Maybe another team is involved, an exchange of picks, additional players...the options are endless. Just meant to say that if we have a high draft pick, then it opens other doors than just using that pick to take a chance on the BPA.

But, hey, if we can just sign Derozan using cap space, I'd be down with that plan.

Ironically you started in 1979. From 70-78 we had 3 over all #1 picks.
LaRue Martin
Bill Walton
Mychal Thompson

Those three were pretty diverse. Bust, Superstar who got injured, and Solid payer.
So you're saying Mychal has a good credit score?

On the other hand the Lakers backcourt could be set for a while with Russell and Clarkston. I guess he could play SF.

Given the choice, don't you think they'd prefer Clarkson as a super-sub behind two all-stars?

Tough choice. Everyone seems really high on Clarkson and I can see why. The way Russell has started out maybe he is the sub. Clarkson can play both spots as well.

You are probably right.

Yeah, I've heard that too. Of course, I haven't watched enough (any) Laker ball to form an opinion of him, so I have no idea if he's actually any good, or if he just looked good amongst scrubs.

He is pretty solid. Played very well last year. Good all around game.

it simple guy. get Harrison Barnes. he can a lot of things on the court including post up, shoot 3's, attack the rim, plays really good defense. his per 36- is 12.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.3 steals, .4 blocks and he shoots 40% 3's. i think with a bigger roles his numbers would way better. plus he fits the age.

FWIW ........It is not simple according to Mychal Thompson. He may not be in the "know", but I heard him telling Laker fans that Barnes is not going anywhere. GS loves the kid, on and off the court, and they want to lock him up long term along with Klay, Green, and Curry.

then they would probably max out barnes, klay, green, and Curry if they wants to keep that core but i doubt it because they don't have that much money

They have a rich owner, and the cap is going way up. I hope you are right, but if they really do like him, they will keep him.

Brandon Ingram will be the best wing player out of next year's draft. Id love to draft him

There is someone in the Draft that reminds me a bit of Drexler. I watched as much of him as possible back when he was with the Houston Cougars and his game then reminds me a bit of OG Anunoby now. Drexler was the more athletic but OG can fly as well. OG shoots it a little better and is a little better on the defensive end. Drexler was the better passer and both were 'big' for being a SG. OG is listed as a SF but I'd like to see him at SG in the NBA as he can guard many spots from there and would have a size advantage.

Yeh, I like this guy; what's not to like about a SF who shoots 70% from the two?
