I would attribute this to the Defense being on the field for the majority of the 2nd half The Defense did just fine IMO. What was the average length drives LSU had I wonder? I wouldnt think many were more than 40.

True, but the Ducks often "lost" the time of possesion battle last season, but more than compensated with their depth. This team doesn't look as deep.

correct they often lost the TOP and I expect it to be the same this year. But I cant recall many times where they were on the field for such a high percentage of a half. Except for maybe Stanford in 09? (although this game they were on the field so much because of TO's)

I'm no Oregon fan, but I laugh a bit on the inside when I see threads like this b/c I know where you were in 1994. You wouldn't have been able to schedule a neutral-site game with a top 25 team, much less have a chance at beating them.

First games with young teams against good teams end up like this sometimes. Not everyone can be an offensive and defensive powerhouse in their first game like Navy. :)

It's not relevant to say "I know who you were in 1994". That was a generation ago. Forest Gump and Pulp Fiction came out that year for Pete's sake.

So in your opinion, how long would it take for, say, Iowa State, or Indiana, or Vanderbilt, or Kansas, or Connecticut to go from where they are today to become teams who could schedule Top 5 teams on neutral turf after being to 2 BCS games in a row?

just to follow up on this a little more. LSU had the ball for 13+ Minutes of the 3rd Quarter. No defense is gonna get stronger over the 2nd half when you are being Battering Rammed(is that a term?) for that much time straight almost with no rest. The Defense was not the problem Saturday night.

I never thought the defense was the problem. It could have helped to have Cliff in there, but overall I was very happy with the D. It was our offense that looked jittery, out of sync, and completely unsure of themselves. Lots of drops, lots of miscues, and lots of turnovers.

We gave LSU great field position and they capatilized on it! We fumbled they scored! Not worried, we can clearly play better and will!! The OOOOOO will be back!!!!!

it was more in response to Grouch saying the Defense didnt get stronger. No defense is gonna get stronger when it is being hit 87% of any quarter.

Now is the time to make the in state tuition with the island of Somoa so our O and D lines are huge and evil!! I for one am tired of watching our lines being pushed around by 25 year old 6'5 juco transfers in the SEC!!!

Yeah, the size difference of the lines in the SEC is ridiculous. But, that game was lost with the turnovers. Essentially handing them touchdowns and giving the power running game team the ball back was horrible. There was bright spots, though. I really liked Gildon's play.

yeah I def was impressed with Gildon and good to see him living up to his 4* rating from recruiting. Too bad he is a Senior lol. We'll be replacing two good DB's after this year. But should enjoy him and Harris on opposite sides of the D.

Is there going to be a replay of this game anywhere?

probably on espnu if anywhere

Yeah, the size difference of the lines in the SEC is ridiculous.

I started a recent thread that compared the listed average weights of the LSU & Oregon lines. The differences between the Offensive lines to the Defensive lines they were matching up against were about the same. One could claim that SEC lines are more talented, but size is something that can be measured.

Obviously, it's not just back-to-back BCS appearances. Since 1994, Oregon has been a relevant football program who consistently wins games and goes to Bowl Games. But it's more than that. The uniforms/marketing, the fast paced/high powered/quick striking offense . . . you can't compare that to (for example) UConn winning games 10-9 in the Big East for a couple of years and ending up in back-to-back BCS Games. There's an "in vogue" factor that Oregon has right now. That's why they can schedule games in neutral sites against top 5 opponents. Phil Night's money has gone a long way.

I get what you're saying, but "generation ago" doesn't factor into anything you just wrote. My premise isn't that Oregon hasn't "arrived" as an "in vogue" team--I know they have. I'm saying that prior to Damon Huard tossing a pick in 1994 people were happy if it looked like they might have a winning season soon and ecstatic when you made the Independence Bowl (just like Indiana, Vandy, basically any lower-tier team of a decent conference). Now (due I'm sure in large part to Phil's $, uniforms, marketing, the offense, etc) the team is at the place where fans want your back-to-back BCS game coach fired b/c a freshman fumbled a couple times against a top 5 team and you lost the season opener. That's still very amusing to me, as an outside observer of the program.

fans, as in plural? Other then the OP, how many here have called for Chip's head? Seems to me that not only has no one else echoed that sentiment, most everyone has mocked it.

surely you've followed sports long enough to know that some "fans" just enjoy being angry, or outrageous.

As an outsider, I imagine it would be amusing. As someone with a connection, I at first found it ridiculous, but then I considered who posted it and laughed it off.

Okay, I had the signs printed up and I've got the torches and pitch forks. Where are we meeting tomorrow?

Bump.

I really miss the days of losing to Indiana at home, or even losing to WSU by 40 points at home.

Chrisinpdx must have registered his domain name at Godaddy.com!!

FireChipKelly is written by "a University of Oregon alumnus (Class of '94), and Duck fan since the mid 1970s," the site says. It lists the reasons Kelly should be fired, links to recent news stories and a plea: "We share the common goal of excellence at Oregon, so please keep all correspondence civil."

It seems odd to the uninitiated: someone advocating the public disgrace of a coach, asking for civility. But the sites have gone way beyond the shock of their early days and become commodities.
