Portland coach Nate McMillan actually wanted the team to draft Adam Morrison over Brandon Roy back in 2006.

"He told me he wanted to pick me if I fell to that spot," Morrison, a reserve for the Lakers, said. "He said he'd draft me."

Back then, Morrison had just been voted second in collegiate Player of the Year balloting.

After an hour-long pre-draft workout at the Blazers' practice facility, McMillan met with Morrison in his office where the two "talked for a little bit" about the upcoming draft.

"I thought all of those guys were good," McMillan said.

"It was a really good group.

It's a good thing he doesn't make the personnel decisions

Morrison plays the game the right way.

How is this news? So did 3/4 of Portland.

I would say fire McMillan if he still felt that way though.

Even then, I thought Morrison would be another Luke Jackson. I guess I was partially wrong...

Goes to show that doing things "right" and doing things "badly" aren't always mutually exclusive.

This.

A pretty good portion of people wanted to Draft the 'Stache, including myself.

How many players did McMillan say the same thing to? Every year, a couple of players are disappointed because a team told them they'd draft them and they didn't. Flattery. McMillan probably says that to all the girls.

So with that logic, we should also fire those radio jack asses that wanted Morrison as well...and a few folks on this message board. Because you know, folks can't be allowed to make a mistake and be let alone.

Wow, what a great comparison. You have now compared the basketball knowledge of Nate to a couple of radio personalities that don't know shit about basketball and are complete tools. Maybe the comparison isn't as far off as we think, it seems their basketball knowledge maybe of similar degrees.

I don't think he said anything about Morrison OVER Roy...just that Nate was interested in Morrison if he fell to 6.

Quite an impressive leap from

Freaking wow.

RealGM needs to start making their hyperconclusionists identify themselves. They're giving bleacherreport a run for their credibility money...

If Taureen Green could get us 4 wins, just imagine how many Adam Morrison could've!!!

What does knowledge have to do with it. His job has as much do with acquiring personnel as a dude working at 7-eleven.

Well that is true. I never really thought of it that way. No way he has any influence on how we draft. He's in the "situation room" during draft time and at pre-draft workouts to fetch towels for the players and get KP his sodas.

I have never heard of them picking a draft pick because he was for Nate. Ever.

Yes. Yes we should. And that newspaper guy -- Can-something-or-other....

They did fire Ian at 1080, and a lot if it had to do with this.

I thought Morrison was a non NBA player all along.

after personally seeing him get caged and bitch about it the whole game to the refs to a senior from Pepperdine who was only playing due to senior night it confirmed my suspicions that the stache sucked
