No doubt cannot get on JD/Gorton at all regarding the Lafreniere situation, who knew we'd win the lottery. My point was it made a bad signing even worse IMO. I didn't like the Kreider signing when they did it. Kreider is who he is, a limited player who disappears for long stretches. At this point I am of the belief that will never change.
I think his re-signing was done for the wrong reasons. Well, we want to try and win at some point, and we cannot trade every vet, Kreider is the last vet left, okay let's re-sign him if we can keep him under 7 mill per. That's how I think it went down. And based on position, I absolutely rather have Hayes if I were given the choice.
With that said, and I am mainly talking to myself here, it is what it is and that ship has sailed. Hopefully the 6.5 per for a long time that Kreider is getting doesn't become a total albatross. And I do give him credit for taking less, but he also got a NTC for that discount.
As for Z, I agree mel, he has been awful, even worse than Kreider. But he plays C and we are so thin there, double so with Chytil out, plus he plays on the PK, and he takes big faceoffs (yes struggling this year). Sitting him to move a guy like Rooney up just doesn't make sense. Also, and maybe this is not fair, I give him a bit of a break because the guy had Covid literally days before the season started. That may not be fair to give him a little break due to that at this point, but I do. But yes no doubt Z has been bad, and needs to be MUCH MUH better and soon.
As for needing a C, we all (including me head of the line), need to stop touting I knew they needed a C and said it 500 times in August etc. Everyone and their brother knows we need a C badly, so that is not breaking news, or something one person is calling out. We all said it, we all know it, Gorton/JD need to deal from the excess prospects we have, and get a top 6 C in here this summer. I still think Eichel can/will be the guy, unless the Sabres make the playoffs this year, and keep Hall.
