First Round Playoffs: Blazers/Rockets Game 2 Thread

You seem to be confusing cause and effect. Roy and Aldridge shot such high percentages BECAUSE they were both getting LOTS of good, high percentage shots. If Brandon Roy wasn't getting so many, easy, high percentage shots and drawing fouls on the defense that got the Blazers in the bonus, do you really think he would have taken 27 shots?

Hell no. He's not an idiot. He's one of the smartest players in the game. Give him some credit. He saw what the defense was giving them, and tonight they were allowing him to get into the paint for some easy looks. He would have been stupid not to take advantage of that.

You're so pissed that Sergio was a total non-factor that you're actually complaining about a win - a PLAYOFF WIN.

BNM

That's not at all what I said and you seem to be argueing with your previous attack.

Just saying we got very lucky the chips fell our way, and a 2-man offense will not win a playoff series.

Of course you take what they give you, but you better be able to take more than that if you want a ring, because they aren't going to give you that again.

We need to go back to what got us here, and this sure isn't it.

And that 3 minute stretch with the bench (+1) 2nd foul on Yao, Sergio forced a Lowry travel...was hardly a non-factor, we'd most likely have lost without it.

Or maybe you think Roy and Lamarcus never need to catch their breath. :dunno:

Yeah, if Blake didn't run the team like a fucking piker all night, maybe the ball distribution would have been better. I don't get why Sergio or Bayless didn't get more burn.....Blake was fucking AWFUL at getting the offense rolling.

Easy. This team doesn't have a starting caliber point guard.

Steve Blake would make a fantastic (maybe best in the league?) backup, but Sergio can't shoot, and Bayless can't shoot or pass with any consistency. This team is begging for a consolidation trade this summer or a free agent signing (or sign and trade?) for a veteran point who has a track record of high level performance and a starter's game.

This isn't a hate thread on our collection of 1s, it's just the way it is right now and the Playoffs have brought this into sharp relief.

Bingo

It's the Portland Trailblazers, not the Portland Roys.

Sergio plays as a team, in the playoffs Roy has played selfishly and neutralized his teammates.

These both should have been easy wins for us. Lack of, nearly total absence of, team offense and ball movement almost cost us this game just as surely as it cost us the first game.

No way we win in Houston riding 2 guys on offense, and I doubt Nate is happy how we won the game.

absolute garbage.

Jesus christ. Portland Trail Blazers just won their first playoff game in 6 years and you're fucking whinging.

I give Outlaw props at the end, but he was god-awful-terrible the rest of the game.

This.

If the Blazers have a chance at all in Houston they need Travis to get out of his funk or pray LMA and Roy have encore performances.

Question for all--can Houston continue shooting the lights out like they have been? I'm afraid were making guys like brooks and wafer look like all stars.

Roy passed in the first quarter but no one was hitting anything except for a Blake three IIRC. He could have kept passing and they could have kept missing and we wouldn't have won. In the second LaMarcus and others started hitting and it was all good.

BNM, Roy hit some RIDICULOUSLY tough shots with Battier right in his face. I would say that most of Roy's looks were tough.

Anyone notice how Battier contests shots? His defense is just amazing. To bad Roy's offense is even better.

You mean, good thing Roy's offense is even better :devilwink:

Yup.

Also, I think Brooks will be the key to the series and not Yao. A lot of the open looks Houston got were because Blake could not defend Brooks, Brooks drove into the lane, the defense collapsed, and he found shooters.

Yahoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Blazers!!!!!! The game was great!!! Crowd was awesome, a little too tight for me at the end but what a great game to be at!

How about reading this:

and then getting off Steve Blake's nuts? The rules of the game have changed to give the penetrating point guard all of the advantage.

Roy and Aldridge was working all night. Houston didn't have an answer for either. Are you suggesting they should have stopped going to Brandon and LaMarcus and tried something else? Why? When your best two players are rolling, you keep going to them until it stops working. Tonight, it never stopped. So, why change?

This is the play-offs. It's not the time to rest your best players. They get 2 or 3 days off between games. There's plenty of time to rest them then. Teams shorten their rotation and play their best players more minutes in the playoffs for a reason - it works. Every game is so important, you want your best players on the court and the ball in their hands as much as possible. This isn't the time of year to whine about some bench player getting his minutes cut.

Face it, you're just butt hurt because your favorite players was reduced to an afterthought in the most important game this team has played in six years.

Absolutely! Section 331 was rocking! My fiancee - who is a casual fan, but not hardcore - was with me, and she made me laugh when she said "they need to be rid of the bullshit during the time outs! Nobody gives a fuck about bowling for Caronas!" By the end, she was screaming, clapping, and chanting with the rest of us!

It was probably the most intense experience I can remember having*!

High-fiving random dudes after the game was fun in a "Purell, anyone?" sort of way! :ghoti:

He also drove around him several times and drew multiple fouls on Battier. And, he drove around Artest even easier. For every "tough" shot Roy put up tonight he had two where he got into the paint for an easy shot, or FTs.

There's no better feeling than high-fiving strangers, and just enjoying the moment with people who share the same love as you! Section 320 was awesome as well!

Since Sergio and Jerryd haven't really played the last 2 games, the playoffs have only exposed Blake's weaknesses, and how much better we are when all 3 play rather than 1.

I see no need at all for another PG, just a better mix of PT.

As for trading for a "veteran", just let that bad, bad idea go.

Never gonna happen as KP likes these guys a lot.

It's a stupid cliche that has never proven to be true.

The deepest teams that play team ball are always the champs in the end.

Actually, it's the reason we were 1 and out so many years.

Nah. The Cs jumped on Pierce's back and rode him to the key Game 7 win over the Cavs, who gave them the toughest challenge of anyone. The Lakers rode Shaq & Kobe back in 00-02. The Heat rode Wade in the 06 Finals. The Bulls rode Jordan when they needed a key win (see that game when he had the flu). In the playoffs, you dig in, you put your best players on the floor, keep them out there as much as you can, and ride them to glory.

Tonight, we desperately needed a win, we had just been blown out, and Houston was hungry. It was a tough game. And almost every champion has to play a game like we played tonight. Where you need a superstar to carry you like Pierce did for the Celtics when it looked like the Cavs were gonna knock them out. The reason we are considered a title contender now and for the future is because we have a guy in Roy who can deliver these kind of performances. Without such a player, it's very very tough to win a championship in this league.

I expect Outlaw and Rudy to step up in Houston, but it's not like it's unheard of for a single player to carry a team for entire series. Look at the 2006 Finals.

There's gotta be a cooler headline idea than "Roy Rules" and "Rippin Roy." Hmmmm....... "Roy Toys With Rockets"? "Oh, Roy!"?
