Good job, fellas.

Way to go, Blazers. So how do we stack up against these Western Conference teams?

Lakers 2-1
Mavericks 3-1
Nuggets 1-3
Jazz 0-4
Suns 2-1
Spurs 3-0
Thunder 3-1

14-11 with injuries. Not too shabby. Let's see how they play in a best-of-seven.

Yeah!! This win could actually end up costing us in the playoffs, but IMHO, you've got to go out winning as much as you can every game. Great win for these guys.

While I know McMillan won't get coach of the year and KP won't win GMOTY, at least one of them deserve some major props.

It depends on how Phoenix does. If they can beat Utah and Denver, we would play Phoenix first. :dunno:

Wow, that's a tall task.

Well, Denver visits Phoenix on the 2nd half of a B2B, so the Suns should be able to handle that one. It's the Jazz game that will be the problem.

50 games is an unbelievable accomplishment when you consider the amount and severity of injuries that this team has had. I didn't think it was likely that we make the playoffs when Oden went down, and when Joel got injured, I thought our season was over and the lottery was in our future. But this team just never gave up and someone always stepped up!! What a gutsy team!

I think the Jazz will be on the back end also flying in from The Bay.

I'm OK with Nate not getting COTY. It seems like usually the award is given to flash-in-the-pan types, like Sam Mitchell and Byron Scott. Thats why Phil Jackson, and I believe Jerry Sloan, have never won it. Let Scott Brooks get it-has the 2nd or 3rd best player in the L, no major injuries, good role players,a nd still his team's going to be Chobe-fodder in the first round..

Biggest crime in all of sports is the fact that Jerry Sloan has NEVER won it!

I don't know-would you rather have 2 West championships, one of the greatest duos of all time, a huge winning record, major sucess in 24 out of 25 years (Sloan), or win COTY and then be unemployed shortly thereafter? (Scott and Mitchell)

I think that the award is gotten vastly overrated in the past decade for the most part, but thats just my opinion...

2008-09 Mike Brown Cleveland
2007-08 Byron Scott New Orleans
2006-07 Sam Mitchell Toronto
2005-06 Avery Johnson Dallas
2004-05 Mike D'Antoni Phoenix
2003-04 Hubie Brown Memphis
2002-03 Gregg Popovich San Antonio
2001-02 Rick Carlisle Detroit
2000-01 Larry Brown Philadelphia

1999-00 Doc Rivers Orlando
1998-99 Mike Dunleavy Portland
1997-98 Larry Bird Indiana
1996-97 Pat Riley Miami
1995-96 Phil Jackson Chicago
1994-95 Del Harris Los Angeles Lakers
1993-94 Lenny Wilkens Atlanta
1992-93 Pat Riley New York
1991-92 Don Nelson Golden State
1990-91 Don Chaney Houston

So I'll retract my above statement about Phil Jackson...

He has gotten there, though. Don Nelson however, the winningest coach ever, has never even been to the finals. I think the crime in this case though is that Nelson has the record, not that he didn't get to the finals.

He was talking about the Coach of the Year award, not a championship.

The CotY seems to be, "Which team exceeds expectations the most?"

Sloan (and Jackson) have been on such good teams that they aren't really in the best position to win it compared to flash-in-the-pan coaches that do well out of the blue.

If people put much stock in the CotY, then I agree they are probably overrating it.

Agreed-however Jackson and Pops won COTY in championship years, w/HOF players. It seems like in recent years, there aren't a lot of household names on the list like there used to be. Maybe the award is getting watered down. If it is indeed which team exceeds expectations the most, and the injuries are factored in, Nate should win going away.
