Here is Oregon's....

We continue our five-part series looking at teams that could win the BCS National Championship. We’ve already looked at Alabama, Oklahoma, and LSU. Today we head West and introduce Oregon.

Oregon coach Chip Kelly is looking to get the Ducks back to the BCS National Championship.. (Craig Mitchelldyer/US PRESSWIRE)

OREGON

Why they will win: Let’s face it, the Ducks had a taste of the high life and want to come back for more. Last season was a magical one for Chip Kelly and his team, however, a tough loss against Auburn in front of a national audience left the team wanting to prove they were a better team. They could get their shot again this season. Oregon returns 12 starters from last year including seven from an offense that ranked No. 1 in the nation in total offense (530.69 yards per game). Quarterback Darron Thomas and Heisman Trophy finalist LaMichael James are back to power the squad. James led the country in rushing (144.25 yards per game) and was one of the most electrifying backs to watch last season. The defense returns five starters from a squad that ranked 34th in the nation in total defense. Their schedule includes five bowl teams from last season.

Why they won’t win: It’s tough just getting back to the BCS National Championship. While Oregon’s offense is pretty much intact, they did lose wide receivers Jeff Maehl and D.J. Davis. Maehl led the team in receptions (77) and receiving yards (1,076) while Davis was the No. 2 receiver with 42 receptions and 470 yards. Replacing them will be a must for Kelly. The defense, which showed cracks during the title game against Auburn, lost some talent including leading tackler LB Casey Matthews and DT Kenny Rowe, who led the team with 7 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss last season. While the schedule only features five bowl teams from last season, Oregon opens the season against another tough SEC opponent in LSU at Cowboy Stadium. A road game against Stanford starts a stretch of three tough games to finish the season. Plus, with the addition of Colorado and Utah, the Pac-12 now has a championship game which means the possibility of playing an additional game.

Key games: vs. LSU (Sept. 3); at Arizona (Sept. 24); at Stanford (Nov. 12); USC (Nov. 19); at Oregon State (Nov. 26).

Oregon's defense showed cracks in the title game? Those guys were swarming all night! without that defense we would have been out of the game by halftime. (not saying you said this Jayremie lol)

The article missed one key game on our schedule- the PAC-12 Championship game.

I wish!

its strange how they sugarcoat 12 returning starters, so basically they lost half their team? eek, although i think they can overcome it.

12 returning starters is a pretty decent amount actually. Auburn for example returns 4 I think.

Auburn ain't gonna do shit this year.

probably correct. I was just pointing out that there are other schools worse off with returning Talent.

12 returning starters is great for a team that subs in at every position constantly. Everyone that will start this year should have a good amount of playing experience.

I'm sad about our Linebackers. However, I actually think our OLine should be okay, at least later on in the year. I'm also encouraged with what I've been hearing about our DLine, which is one of the two biggest holes in our team, IMO. It is all about winning in the trenches, no matter if you are a team like oregon that is faster than all hell, Ohio State and Auburn showed us that you can beat us by overpowering us with the DLine (and having a mobile QB I suppose). Other than that, we will have another great offense and another pretty good defense.

BCS or bust for sure. Maybe Natty or bust.

Oregon is probably going to have to integrate at least one of their new WRs from the 2011 class. Teams are going to stack the box on them if they don't find some more speed on the outside. None of those guys are with the team until the summer so...

That, having the O-Line in synch, and injuries are my biggest concerns with the Duckies chances next season.

Co-effing-signed!

Rose Bowl or bust for me. Of course I want to get to the natty every year. But realistically being at least in the Conference championship picture until the last week, and mostly in the Pac-12 Championship is what I am "expecting" from here on out.
