Re: BREAKING NEWS

Don't sign the deal with Miller yet. Have it essnetially agreed to, but don't finalize until after the S&T with Lee, and then it could be done.

Portland sends Outlaw out. Receives Lee. Lee signed to a multi-year deal starting at say $8M.

New York sends Lee out. New York receives Outlaw.

We wouldn't have money to sign Miller to a deal outright. We'd have to work a sign-and-trade with Blake headed to Philly.

Is that what you're thinking?

Was thinking Outlaw and Blake together, with added incentive to NY if need be.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Outlaw and Blake would be 7.6 million together, which would be a decent offer for Lee, unless he wants to play for the QO, adn then hope for the best next season. Could add a pick. Duhon also wasn't an uptempo PG, but then did well under D'Antoni. Who knows what Blake would look like there. And Outlaw could potentially fit in as well as scorer off the bench. Not saying it is likely at all, was just saying a S&T for him could still happen if we wanted one to. Not sure whether NY would want to, though. Sorry for throwin out ahypothetical trade. I'm sure you'll cry about it, but try not to.

Can't do that. Lee is a BYC at that point and New York at that point can only take back half of what Lee is newly signed for. If Lee makes $8M in the new salary, they can only get back $4M.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

I was hoping this meant we gave Brandon Roy his contract extension.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Here's an idea.

Portland sends Outlaw to New York. New York signs-and-trades Lee for a starting multi-year deal of $7.2M. This satisfies the CBA and Lee's BYC status.

Portland sends Blake to Philly in a sign-and-trade for Miller.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Lee does not become BYC, I believe, if he is signed with cap space. Not sure how S&T works with that, but I believe it would be the same. Hmmm, maybe not. Can't get a definitive answer on that.

Read my thread on "Jason Quick updates the David Lee situation." That ship has sailed.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

In the below deal, we use up $3.6M of our $7.7M. This leaves us with $4.1M. We then use up 3M in our spending money for Miller. We're left with $1.1M. Done.

He's coming off a rookie deal. His salary is going up more than 20%. The CBA requires him to become a BYC if he's signed, even in a S&T.

CBA says if he is signed by a team over the cap, he becomes BYC. If WE signed him, he wouldn't be. But I think trading him to us might still make him one, so nevermind.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

This thread has died and morphed into every other thread past 3 pages about ridiculous trade ideas that will never happen.

R.I.P thread.

Right, because the team signing him is NY, who is over the cap.

Well I think everything that can be said about Andre Miller has been said for the past month.

LOL. I point this out 2 pages ago, and you attack me.

You point this out, and???

:devilwink:

Like that isn't this whole board? We still have one guy who hasn't got over the fact that Rubio was drafted by the Timberwolves, and that was a month ago. :devilwink:

Re: BREAKING NEWS

A lot of Sixers fans upset about no sign and trade with him. They've basically been left without a point guard to run their team.

So we gave him a Blake/Outlaw style contract, except worth more. I wonder what plans are in store for those two, speaking of which, if Miller takes it?

I posted earlier that I was surprised Philly didn't want a sign-and-trade. Or maybe Portland doesn't want to give up Blake, which makes some sense as well.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Well I am still not sold on all this being good. Andre Miller has several things that set off alarms in my head when I think about them.

1. He has never been re-signed by a team when free agency has came up. Always shipped out or let walk. Why has nobody ever wanted to keep him on board?

2. He only seems to work out well if the fit is right. Denver, who had been in need of a good PG for almost a decade before they got Billups, shipped him to Philly for Iverson. Yet somehow Billups comes in, and magically heals the team after Iverson is shipped? It was almost the exact same team as when Miller was there, minus a couple of role players. But it didn't work.

3. He was unaffective in Philly until they opened up to a running style. Nate is here. Enough said.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Oh, just signed Andre Miller. Thought I read something else but I guess not.

I'm not sure I get the first point. The Cavs traded him so they could tank their way to Lebron. Denver also traded him - for a guy who was still considered a big star. That leaves the Clips....and do you blame him for refusing to re-sign with them?

As to your second point, the year before he arrived in Denver, they won 17 games. In his 3 full seasons, they won 43, 44, and 49. He "worked" just fine - but the team was unwilling to build entirely around an immature Melo, so they went with AI instead. Billups came in and had the good fortune to play with a Melo who was starting to "get it."

There is some truth to the third point, but it is tough to look good with Mo "What's a playbook?" Cheeks in charge!

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Late to this, as I couldn't check the forum all day, but I'm very pleased with this signing. I would have preferred Millsap (but Portland tried that and it was clearly not possible) or Sessions, but this is an impact move, in my opinion. And the terms, if reports are right, are basically perfect. Two guaranteed years, one team option. That is exactly the kind of "proven point guard" bridge Portland needed to evaluate what they have in Bayless (and, to a lesser extent, Fernandez) and whether they can use either one at point guard long-term. But it exposes the team to very little risk (the Turkoglu guaranteed five-year deal had tons of risk and not a lot of reward, so I like this MUCH more).

In the meantime, Miller is still a very good point guard, he's a solid defender even though he's declined a bit with age and he knows how to get others involved. I think Roy will flourish not having to run the offense every moment that he's on the floor. Now he can run things at the ends of games and otherwise split his time between being on the ball and off the ball. He'll be a more versatile weapon that way. I also love what I think this will do for Aldridge and Oden, to have a tremendous passer to drive and dish to them and to throw alley-oop lobs.

Also, I think Miller will push the ball when Portland has numbers after a long rebound or quick outlet. McMillan isn't going to make Portland a "running offense," but I think he'd be perfectly happy to have a good push-the-pace point guard help the team get easy buckets now and then.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Don't think he'll fit well in portland. Not under a Nate slow-paced team.

How many times last year did we see Aldridge be first down the court with no lob to follow? I think this is great for Oden, Aldridge and Batum. Aldridge and Batum should each get two more buckets/game on breaks.

I don't understand this theory. You are not the only one saying it. What part of Andre Miller's game suggests that? Certainly his lack of 3 pt shooting doesn't. Andre Miller can run an offense, any offense. If he can't run the point in a so called Nate offense, how many PG's can?

Re: BREAKING NEWS

It's only 2 years if it doesn't work out. The 3rd year will be a team option.

This is a good signing if it actually happens.
