Not neccessary. Subdue him call the cops

Whoa! That is a totally un inform post.
You must live in a very high crime place to have cop on call within a response time that is meaningful. Damn near all of Oregon is outside of where the cops will come on demand before you are cold. Relying on the police for protection is a fools mission.

The charts you do not like, and even the one you posted, show that "prevention" is impossible.

EVERYTHING is a band aid.

well, I suppose instead of just medicating kids from kindergarten on up with Prozac we could euthanize them...eliminate all the problem children...

I think that when a teenager is in high school, he can be influenced by vid games, movies and lastly internet bullshit. If he is deemed as a loner and isolated, then all the ingredients stir and produce a hostile kid who hates humans rather than authority. Its a test to them. They are typically loners or have one insane friend. They distance themselves, acquire weapons and use logistics to their advantage. When I went to high school, I never had the media influences. Pagers were not invented! Eight track players were limited to a car and were enjoyed being in an accepted group trying to get away with pranks and getting high.
Participating in a clique, you felt acceptance. These crazed kids have no social connection to harness human care and curtesy. If the kid is sick in the head, what could be done?. Only a school board can have resources to solve these dilemmas.

that is only one leg of the table, you need to incorporate all of the system to make it work.

Right. One of those legs needs to be making sure mentally ill don't get guns.

Sorry, common sense says if you're crazy you don't get to have a gun.

Problem is I'm not sure how many cons would pass the psych eval. Sociopathy is a mental disorder.

Everyone saw the signs with this kid.

My son and I have been discussing this in depth. I told him to be kind and generous to everyone he meets. Be a friend and advocate to all. Be the kid that would get passed over by the shooter because he/she knew you weren't part of the people oppressing them. HELP them if you can. Stick up for the downtrodden. Show them actual love.

Holy Shit! Big D and I are in agreement on a point!

There are already laws that attempt to keep guns out of the hands of those proven to have issues. Sadly, there is no crystal ball that predicts just who will be a threat. Just because some one has a tough start in life does not indicate that they will become a problem.

Internalize much? I never once called you Conservative.

Here is a telling sign, your son has a good father that is involved in his life. This happens to be an exception now day, rather than the rule.

And QUOTE my name.

You still haven't come up with one solution.

We already came up with background checks.

Conservative's NRA masters don't want that.

In their opinion that creates a gun registry.

Funny how there's a Marijuana registry though...

I liked this for the snarkiness but had to cancel that.

@Cippy91 has expressed before that he suffers from a mental issue (don't remember if it was bi-polar or depression).

THAT SHIT IS NO JOKE AND SHOULD NOT BE MADE FUN OF.

I'm fine debating with folk but if we're to have a TRUE discussion on the MERITS of the argument, making fun of mental illness MUST STOP.

word? I deal with anxiety. That's definitely not bi polar. But okay

I'm honestly not trying to be callous at all. I just remember you saying something along those lines. And yes anxiety is a mental health disorder. And no one should joke about anyone's mental issue. My ex wife took medication for her anxiety.

So only white people can have guns cause we all had a head start in life thanks to our white privilege? I could get on board...

People who hate guns and think there should be more gun control ALSO almost universally want mental health to be addressed and feel it is critically important. You won’t find someone who hates guns also say “yeah but fuck mental health issues”. It just won’t happen. You have to address ALL the areas - guns and mental health and secure schools etc. however the pro gun folks seems to want all those things just dont mess with our guns. Also, I do not know any anti-gun, liberals who want to take guns away from rightful owners who secure their guns in a safe and know what the hell they are doing. That’s a fallacy. It’s a fear tactic to get the right all riled up (and it works). But if you sell a gun illegally, if you don’t lock up your gun, then what? If someone has been expelled from school and everyone knows he wants to shoot up a school, maybe he should be able to buy a gun.

Probably the best response in this thread to be honest. Pretty fair and down the middle

That's fair. I didn't remember that Cippy was actually mentally ill, or didn't see it when he posted it. Makes my pretend-accusing him of it look pretty bad, to which I plead guilty as charged. I'll try to do better.

Well calling me mentally ill seems bad but barfo knows what he’s doing even hen he is “trying to be sincere”. It’s anxiety. But I mean once again, I see who I’m dealing with here

Uh oh, the PC police have pulled me over again for using the wrong word. How about "Neurodiverse"?

Laughable. Make the claim and don't support it.

Without banning guns or more gun control.

What Caused the Great Crime Decline in the U.S.?
After decades of soaring levels of homicides and drug violence, the country’s crime rate plunged dramatically over the last 25 years. What happened?

...

By decade’s end, the homicide rate plunged 42 percent nationwide. Violent crime decreased by one-third. What turned into a precipitous decline started later in some areas and took longer in others. But it happened everywhere: in each region of the country, in cities large and small, in rural and urban areas alike. In the Northeast, which reaped the largest benefits, the homicide rate was halved. Murders plummeted by 75 percent in New York City alone as the city entered the new millennium.

The trend kept ticking downward from there, more slowly and with some fluctuations, to the present day. By virtually any metric, Americans now live in one of the least violent times in the nation’s history.

But the forces that drove the Great American Crime Decline remain a mystery. Theories abound among sociologists, economists, and political scientists about the causes, with some hypotheses stronger than others. But there’s no real consensus among scholars about what caused one of the largest social shifts in modern American history.
There certainly is a massive data base to mine of 2nd amendment arguments to cut and paste from.....let's say the NRA has a huge following here.... 18 mass shootings in a year..that's not a shrunken stat

School shootings since Sandy Hook. More guns wont fix this, sorry.

This is Football Coach Aaron Feis. His final act was to throw himself in front of students as bullets hailed down yesterday at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He Is A Hero.

This is Peter Wang, he too died a hero yesterday during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. This 15 year-old boy was holding a door open for fellow students to escape before being shot.
