My wife is in Florida for the week with her sister and niece. Hence, I'm batchin' it. Gonna go old school today with a tater salad and spatchcock chicken on the grill later this afternoon. Dang, I need to invite my brother-in-love over!!

What potato salad recipe did you end up going with?

Actually, none that were presented! I kinda cobbled it together with ingredients on-hand. Normally, I like to use yukon golds, but had to go with russets. Mayo, a bit of mustard, eggs, celery, green onions, black olives, bacon, dill pickles and a bit of dill relish, celery seed, salt, pepper.

I (kinda) remember some, uhhm, dubious times I encountered at the Beachcomber. I worked across the street at the old Thriftway (now Albertson's, I believe) and sometimes would trot over there after a late shift.

That was a Thriftway? It was an Albertson's when I was a boy.
I never used to sell newspapers in the Beachcomber because those patrons were notoriously cheap but I always wanted to go in there which I did when I graduated from college and rented my mother's house on Second street between 'C' and 'D' in Lake Oswego. The place was expensive and never had many customers. I always wondered how the Beachcomber survived as business and now I know.

1. I remember the Rexall Pharmacy for three reasons:They were there for a very long time;
2. The first Reeser's Peanut Butter Cup sold in town was sold there and it was my new favorite candy bar;
3. When Playboy magazine came out us kids use to go there to steal a peek. They were kept on the magazine shelf. We would gab one and hide it inside another magazine like a car, sports or fishing magazine and gawk at the pictures. I loved looking at pictures of naked girls more than I loved fishing or eating candy bars and almost as much as I loved swimming in the lake. They soon wised up to us and started placing them behind the counter so you had to be an adult and ask for one.

Wow, great recollections! Hey, do you remember that little ice cream store on B. Ave....across from the old Kienow's? I think it was Newton's. My mom and dad took me there all the time! Ahhh.....the good ol' days. *sigh*

It was called 24 Hours and it was right across for the Safeway when I lived there. It was my favorite treat. My favorite flavor was raspberry ripple.
I remember Safeway moving to their current location on 'A' Avenue but I don't remember Kienows taking over the old Safeway store. Doesn't mean that I'm denying it and I'll take your word for it. You'd think I would have remembered that since when I graduated from college I lived three blocks away. However, shortly after college graduation I met my wife and got swept up in her (still am).

It was called 24 Hours and it was right across for the Safeway when I lived there. It was my favorite treat. My favorite flavor was raspberry ripple.
I remember Safeway moving to their current location on 'A' Avenue but I don't remember Kienows taking over the old Safeway store. Doesn't mean that I'm denying it and I'll take your word for it. You'd think I would have remembered that since when I graduated from college I lived three blocks away. However, shortly after college graduation I met my wife and got swept up in her (still am).

When I was in my early teens my baseball buds and I would cross the train tresel from Oak Grove and meet up with those Oswego chicks. Was it the State Street theater right on the main drag?

I actually dated a girl from Milwaukie and trekked across that trestle numerous times. I loved walking through the tunnel on the Lake Oswego side. There was a big bend in it, so somewhere near the middle it was pitch (and I mean PITCH) black. I'd get a stick before entering so I could guide myself along the track.

Another day of strawberry picking and my wife is making strawberry rhubarb jam...my favorite..as well as pie...freezer is filling up early this season...have to buy a 3rd freezer

That serious question should be in the corona virus thread, and I know that I don't have the answer. In public, in Florida, I'll wear a mask. I go out in public as little as possible though. The general population is stupid everywhere, so I'm not risking it.

I have a quarter acre veggie garden...60 fruit trees and a ton of blackberries and grapes....and I fish a lot...as a kid on the dairy farm growing up we had 5 or 6 freezers and a root cellar.
