Or even if you do, let's say Nate got fired tomorrow after this disastrous road trip. Us being a young team full of talent, every single coach, regardless of their current situation, wants to come here. So, if you could have any coach in the NBA (or maybe not in the NBA), who would you want? Who would make this team it's very best?

I don't want Nate fired. Any criticism I made of him tonight was made facetiously in response to another thread that covered the past two days.

I think Nate has done an amazing job this season with a very young team and with a #1 pick who isn't living up to the billing yet.

His offensive sets are so atrocious I think it's hurting the development of some of the players.

How so? Every other young player seems to be doing OK except for the one who has no other offensive game outside of backing to the basket from the low block. How do you fix that without ignoring that player as a primary option?

Nate's OK. He does some things very well and some very poorly- like most NBA coaches.

As for me, I'd love to see Rick Adelman come back and coach this team.

The ones I'd want are all dead or not feeling very well.

Nate's progressing with the team quite nicely this year. I think the Olympic experience with other coaches has broadened his thinking, and he's finally opened up KP's cookbook.

I'd vote him COY.

Well, that's everyone who thinks he's doing a good job. Now where are the ones saying that he's doing a terrible job? Who do you guys want? You've talked about how terrible Nate is at everything from rotations to defensive sets to offensive sets, so who do you want? Who exudes all these qualities? Doc Rivers? Phil Jackson? Jerry Sloan?

Nate is not doing a bad job per se, but I wouldn't be throwing his name out there for Coach of the Year. We passed our early season test with flying colors, now all of a sudden we are hit or miss vs. a VERY easy portion of our schedule.
I liken the situation to the Ducks in football this year. yes 10-3 is awesome, BUT it really should have been 12-1..we are not reaching our potential.
I also have no clue why we don't hire a damn big man coach. There is no way his hook should be looking this bad. You don't have to have footwork or athleticism to shoot a hook. Hire the Dream PLEASE!
As for an ideal coach? Rudy T, but he's too old and has health problems. Jerry Sloan is just a great coach, I still can't believe that team is afloat with all of their injuries.

Way too much energy being wasted on a player who isn't ready to do more than get garbage points on most nights at this stage of his career.

I'd rather see Oden get 6 fouls banging the boards for rebounds as opposed to hand-checking players who challenge him. He was made into a poster two times tonight. :dunno:

I have been upset with Nate lately with his handling of Oden but I don't want Nate fired. I also don't think this road trip was a disaster. Going 2-2 on any road trip is ok especially after losing Blake. I do think we should have won this game tonight and we would have if we would have shot even close to a normal NBA team from the FT line.

Yea, we lost Blake, but it shouldn't be an excuse. Our PG play was the best of any position tonight. I don't think he would have made a difference tonight.

Yeah I guess I agree with that. I'm not really making a excuse for not having Blake. I do think Blake has played really well this year and I thought we would miss him more then we have so far. I'm a huge Bayless fan but I'm still not sure we can trade Blake. I think a Bayless/Blake PG combo would be best for the Blazers. I could see Sergio being traded with LaFrenz if we could get anything we would need. I'm different then most and would like a backup banger PF before SF and especially PG where Bayless is better then most of the PG we could trade for.

You know, I don't want to sound all holier than thou, but to be honest most of you do not possess adequate knowledge about basketball, coaching, or the players themselves to validate some of the criticisms that you're making. If Nate makes a decision that YOU don't agree with, it doesn't mean he's a lousy coach. If a particular offensive play doesn't work out, it's not automatically Nate's fault. If he runs rotations that aren't ideal in your mind, that doesn't mean he's clueless.

Also, since when is a 2-2 road trip considered disastrous? That sentence made me lol...jesus man get a grip.

They are so bad that Portland is the third most efficient offensive team in the league...?

The only two teams who have a more efficient offense happen to have Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.

The stats don't back up your criticism.

Five players on the floor functioning as one single unit: team, team, team - no one more important that the other

The fact that we rank high in efficiency should tell you just how good Roy is, not how good our offense is.

Watch the games and then tell me how good our offense is. We have no movement, no cutters, no reposting of the ball.

What Portland does almost every time down the floor is dribble the ball at the top of the circle and wait for a screen. Then no one rolls, they pass the ball out and hold it some more. By now there are always less than 7 seconds on the shot clock and Portland is forced to take a poor shot. Brandon Roy normally makes this shot though.

I wish so much that there was a stat somewhere we could all see that showed shots within 1 second of a shot clock violation. Portland would dominate in this category. We also have to be leading in shot clock violations.

We're gonna run the picket fence at them...Now boys, dont get caught watching the paint dry!

For one, I've watched the games, I've watched all but two games this season. I also coach basketball and have worked for a scouting service, so I would like to think I have some knowledge of the game.

Is it fair for me to assume you think Brandon Roy is one of the top 3 players in the NBA? I know I'm jumping to conclusions, but that is the only thing I can come up with, based on your reasoning that Brandon Roy bails us out and make very difficult shots.

Without having any proof, I would guess that we force more 24 second shot clock violations on other teams than we have ourselves. It seems to me that you tend to remember the bad possessions more than the good ones. You should chart the possessions the next game and see how many shots we take with 1 second left on the shot clock, I bet you would be surprised it's only a few (and our opponents is similar).
