For people who make video avatars, I have a question

I make video avatars, but I have heard that people make them with a certain program. I just do this to make them:

1. Cut the clip I want in Windows Movie Maker
2. Save it
3. Convert that on SUPER as a gif file

But the quality kind of sucks:

See what I mean? The quality isn't clear, like the gif image in my Gerald Green sig. Can someone let me know how to make them clear like that? Do I need a special program?

try Ulead GIF Maker, its on download.com, I think

Could please find me a link where I can just download it? Everything I've found so far either doesn't work or it costs $50.

A guy on my (other) forum, is excellent at it. He takes snapshots of every frame of the video and puts them together. There is another way to add video, but that is exclusive to firefox and takes a VERY long time.

bad quality wont be too apparent when the avatar is that small. try it!
