If Cashman's goal is to win the 2015 WS...flame away. I'll join you. But, this is where understanding what has been said behind closed door and not meant for the printed page comes to play. If Cashman has been tasked with being competitive, is more wins than loses UNTIL ARod and Tex are off the books, than OK. I think its telling that cash got extended for the same length of time its going to take to shuttle out the deadwood on the roster. At that point, Cashman is getting judged by what he built, and not from contracts the steins pinned on him during their rookie owners phase. November 2017.....that's the judgment date for Cashman by all appearances.

Put yourself in Cashman's shoes and think how he would argue to stay and continue rebuilding this team. Its not that far fetched that Hank and Hal bought it. Ever seen another GM cobble together a rotation after all those injuries last year? His offense sucked, but come on we now know that was Longs fault, lol!

I have to give him a C-/incomplete at this point. I like the wave of youth, it's just going to take a long time before we know if it works out. By the way, I know Headley was here last year but resigning him was a pretty good move, especially when you consider the scramble/shuffle if they didn't.

for the very same reason that this is the YANKEES, I would not expect a publicly stated policy of this franchise treading water. Look that very well could be a condition of why cashman kept his job, girardi too. keep up the cover story...trying to compete, and make small moves over the next 3 years as we get out from under these dinosaurs, xyz. maybe this is me trying to read tea leaves, but what else explains the "strategy" being set out post-jeter? perhaps this is what post-YES economics looks like, or they are fattening the bottom line for a future sale. unless someone here has a seat at the franchise winter board meetings...we're all playing clue. Firstly - Justin Wilson is a LH which gives the Yanks at least two more young LH relievers along with Shreve who could also be used as trade chips.

Suzuki had/has become a soft slap hitter who couldn't even provide his usual .300+ BA.
I think we SHOULD expect more production in RF from Beltran/Pirela/Refsnyder/Young...and if not, then the Yanks ARE in trouble.
Headley at 3rd base from the get-go should make them better overall thru the whole season.
Phelps was mediocre at best and couldn't stay healthy the past 2 yrs.
Kuroda was solid and hated to see Greene go but I'm thinking and hoping CC and Nova can fill the void.
I think the bullpen will be at least just as good and probably better than last year.
Same for the rotation.
Same for SS and 2b with Gregorious,Pirela,Refsnyder,Drew.
Don't overlook the probable improvement on defense from SS/2b which should prevent runs and baserunners. Nobody loved Jeter more than me but you have to admit he knew it was time to go and his offense/defense had become mediocre at best.


.....and speaking of "questionmarks", McCarthy wasn't a sure thing to stay healthy or pitch well thru the whole season.

I still stay they win approx 90 games give or take a couple.
Could be higher if they swing a deal for another solid SP.

Seems at this point, nothing less than Several Miracles are ever going to bring back a Yanx Dynasty again, as long as Blank Check Book Brian Man, remains aboard in any position. "Life Without Bryan" is not worthy of even being a consultant, let alone a GM. He shouldn't be on the Yanx Payroll at all, IMO...He should be digging up weeds on Legends/G.Stein the King: Field on Tampa....!!!

3- I fear the Bums may of made a major mistake, by taking on McCarthy with a heftier contract, than what he's ever seen, and has not even 1 full season of luck or wins under his belt. Yet, I've not looked at the McCarthy-Bums splits. If he were a Bum killer, which I doubt any D'Back Pitcher has been in 3 years.

4- I see your looking through your rose tinted "optimistic glasses"; nothing wrong with that. Maybe I need to get a lighter pair of shades, these midnight black lenses seem to help eye sensitivity more so...!

I have reservations about the deal...but we'll see.

How many of us disagree? If they score considerably more runs it should translate into a few more wins with similar "pitching" they had last year and I think they will get at least similar pitching.

In times up to '12 Yankees Spring Training Tickets sold out lightning fast upon availability, this year there are plenty of seats available as of todays date. Up through last year I drooped whatever I was doing to watch a game, this year I will keep that attitude and further state that when looking at the 2015 schedule you'll note that it is loaded against AL East rivals so a quick start is needed . The other Eastern Teams of issues of their own. Though less games are played against ALC and ALW teams, improvements over there are duly noted but as of yet untested. Still the '15 versinon has too many ifs. I vote that the Katzenjammer Kids sell the Yankees to an ownership group who cares or replace Cashman for a quality GM.
