Anyone here like watching Foreign movies. If so what are your favorite ones.

Some of my favorites

City of God
Tae Guk-gi
Oldboy
Let the Right One In
Love Exposure
Ddongpari

Of those you listed, I've only watched Oldboy. That was a fantastic movie.

Steven Spielberg has boughten the rights to Oldboy and I think wants to make an American adaptation. Will Smith is slated to play in it also. No one really knows if it's just going to be a remake or a based off the comic book that the movie's original story is loosely based off.

I haven't watched many. The last one I saw that I liked was Nine Queens.

Very sad that Mission Impossible 2 and Face off are the two movies listed on that poster. Um....Hard Boiled or The Killer anyone??? He directed 2 (I'm sure there are more, but those are my favorites) of the classic Hong Kong films and obviously research told them putting MI2 and Face Off would bring more people in. That being said, Red Cliff was a bit of disappointment for me. I really need to see the full movie(s) cause the US release was super choppy.

About Oldboy, I finally finished the Vengeance trilogy a few days ago. All were great, but Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance in that order. I'm really worried about the remake. I don't think the general audience in the US would react well to the subject matter/graphic nature of the movie. Who knows, maybe they'll get it right. Anywho, off the top of my head, here are some great ones.

Amores Perros
Initial D
Time and Tide
Twilight Samurai
Once Upon a Time in China (1,2 & 3)
Iron Monkey
Tale of Two Sisters
Audition
Amelie
Pan's Labyrinth
3 Iron
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Infernal Affairs

If any of you are in Seattle in May and June, the Seattle International Film Fest is great. I haven't been since graduating at UW so its possible the quality has gone down, but from 2002-06 I saw close to 100 movies there, most of which were top notch.

I bought some bootlegs of the original Chinese versions on ebay and liked them, but you're kinda right, the battle scenes seemed like Dynasty Warriors sometimes :dunno:

It was cool to see the books and games brought to life though in that aspect.

I can't give a comprehensive list, so I have to break it down by country

Germany: The Lives of Others and The Downfall

Denmark: Brothers, Pusher, After the Wedding, The Celebration and Breaking the Waves.

Norway: O'Horton and Insomnia

I just recently watched two Korean movies, "The good, the bad, the weird" and "Memories of murder"..they were both great...

District B13, also known as Banlieue 13. Really kick ass French action movie with a decent IMDB rating. A sequel for it just came out last year. You should watch it (in French with the subtitles, none of this dubbing crap). It's very enjoyable.

"The Lives of Others", was a very good movie.

I usually hate Foreign Movies especially one's when you have to read sub-titles but I loved:

Pan's Labyrinth
Devil's Backbone

IMDB ratings shouldn't be used as a barometer for how good a movie truly is.

Oldboy
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
City of God
Internal Affairs
Lamerica
Pan's Labyrinth
The Barbarian Invasions
Seven Samurai
8 1/2

Woo films: Bullet in the Head (Jacky Cheung, Tony Leung), A Better Tomorrow 1&2 (Chow Yun Fat), Heroes Shed no Tears (never saw this one) He directed an old school Kung Fu movie, but I don't remember its name.

Very nice taste sir. Pan's Labyrinth is one of the better films of the decade, really a must see even if you're not into foreign movies.

If most of you don't know Infernal Affairs is the movie The Departed is based off. Scorcese literally re-shot many direct scenes from that movie. That's probably why I don't like The Departed as much.

Amores Perros is another fantastic movie. Much better than a similar movie that won an Oscar named Crash.

Just saw Mother yesterday. Another very good Foreign movie to check out. It's been cleaning up at the Sundance and New York Film Festivals.

Red - Part of a trilogy but it is an amazing piece of work.

35 Rhums or 35 shots of Rum in English

The White Ribbon
