Who would have thought pick 55 in the 2009 draft (Patty Mills) would playing for the NBA championship contending Spurs; and pick 6 (Jonny Flynn) would be out of the NBA and playing for Patty's old club the Melbourne Tigers in Australia's National Basketball League?

And coached by former Trail Blazer (sort of) Chris Anstey.

Jonny Flynn to replace Kevin Braswell at Melbourne Tigers
JONNY Flynn, a 23-year-old former top-10 pick in the NBA draft, is set to replace Melbourne Tigers import Kevin Braswell who was released by the club this morning.

Anstey said new boy Flynn represented one of the highest-quality players the NBL had seen in some time.

A number six pick in the 2009 NBA draft, the point-guard has been through NBA clubs Minnesota, Houston, Portland and, most recently, Detroit.

After being released by the Pistons recently, FLynn's management contacted Anstey to sound out opportunities at the Tigers.

"He's in his prime and wanted to reinvigorate his career and we're really excited about what he's going to bring," Anstey said.

Flynn is expected to train with his new teammates as soon as Tuesday and could potentially suit up for the Tigers against Adelaide at Hisense Arena on Friday night.

Honestly, I would have considered them comparable talents coming in. Very similar players, really. Flynn just had the East Coast hype. I'm more surprised that Mills is still in the league than that Flynn is out of it.

I wish we still had Patty Mills. He'd be instant offense off the bench.

i really liked Patty. we may have signed him prior to the 2011-12 season, but he played for Melbourne and in China. we lost him because of the lockout.. little known/realized fact: two of Patty's three high point NBA games came against the Warriors.

I love Mills' personality, but Earl Watson is an excellent defender.

More articles on Jonny Flynn.
The Rockets traded Flynn to Portland in 2012 after he appeared in just 11 games. He played 18 games for them. The team declined to re-sign him the following season. He almost caught on with the Pistons last season, but they waived him during training camp. At both stops, his nagging injury and a lack of rhythm dogged him.

Then he disappeared from the NBA's radar, saddled with a label that's almost always career-ending: damaged goods. "When you're as good as he was and had such high expectations, when you're not able to get there, it's very frustrating," Boeheim said. "I think if you haven't made it in two or three cities, the negativity tends to surround you and you have to somehow play your way out of it."

Flynn spent last season with the Australian National Basketball League's Melbourne Tigers. "I really wanted to play in a place that was English-speaking," Flynn said. "That was really my main focus. I want to know what's going on around me." He showcased his burst, stood up against physical players who wanted to prove their worth against a former NBA lottery pick, and was selected as a reserve for the league's all-star game. "They don't call fouls down there," Flynn said. "In the league, you can't touch guys. Down there, you can have the ball and a guy will be almost forearm-shivering you in your side and they won't call a foul. I just think getting beat up and coming from the NBA, I had that target on me."
..........
Flynn wants back into the NBA. But getting back in is often harder than getting in in the first place. Impressions are made. Reputations stick. They can be nearly impossible to shake.

"Even when I talk to NBA guys here that I haven't seen for a while, [they all ask] 'How's the hip doing?'" Flynn said. "That's two, three years ago. I'm fine now. [But] they still have that on their minds."

Just think if Kahn had drafted Steph Curry instead.

Or Ty Lawson... Oh wait, he did. Then traded him, kept Flynn and Rubio and then signed Ridenour and Barea. Out of those 5 PGs, the best player was the one he never intended to keep. Is it any wonder Minnesota sucks so bad?

I wish Kahn was still GM of the T-wolves.

Or the Lakers.
