I remember you sweatin' that freedom when covid hit too bro.....price of freelancing. I've pretty much always had multiple gigs and a day job...got divorced in Calif and they take you to the cleaners there....took 28 years to get that mistake paid off. Still managed to build a home and get ahead and got a fresh start but it was damned hard work for a long stretch of my youth. I only worked 24 hours a week after retiring from the school district. Now I sincerely hope you get back to work and start paying for my social security income because I haven't had to work in 6 years now....it's awesome! My retirement worked out well when covid hit...

The employer's willingness to pay it obviously. I don't think we're talking about independent contractors here.

Well being a singer songwriter has it's benefits.

Before I retired, I was on an "8/9's and 1/8" schedule. Basically, I worked 45 hours one week, then 35 hours the next week and got every other Friday off. While I "technically" worked 40 hours a week, I was salaried and routinely put in 10 hours days regardless. But every other weekend was a 3 day weekend, so I wasn't complaining. Great schedule.......
 
I work around 52 hours a week generally. Physically demanding job. By the time the weekend rolls around I just want to relax and sometimes don’t get around to the stuff I should.

The plus side is I’m at 5 weeks vacation and have one of the most secure pensions in the country.

I work basically for the state. It doesn't work that way.

But the State could change their policy like has been proposed in California. The bill stalled, but there will be another.

It wouldn't work with my job. My job is dependent on me working hours.

They aren't going to up the salary so people will work less, because of the nature of my job.

I work in a field where the state sets a cap on what I earn per hour.

I cannot all the sudden work less and make the same money because my job is 100% on working.

If I don't work, I don't get paid. My salary isn't something that can arbitrarily change.

I.e., if the amount money allotted per hour is $35, I get 35-x dollars per hour. My boss/company I work for gets the rest for their costs.

The state already is trying to find a way to eliminate my field. There is a maximum compensation set for my job. to change it so 30 hours a week is the same pay as 40, would basically eliminate the funding for my job.

so no, no matter what you say this program/idea would not work with my job.

Not sure why this is so hard of a concept to get.

Again, as previously mentioned, some companies had to adjust some things. I am assuming pay structure would potentially be one of items that could be adjusted much like schedules. If you have signed a contract, a new one can be written and signed?

Hello,

It might be because most would think your salary is a contractual obligation with a term limit of some sort or with the ability to be restructured/rewritten at any time?Like most salaries?
Of which case your salary can then be adjusted to meet the change?
Without you better explaining your situation, I do find it hard to understand.

Because most people think of most jobs as being dependent upon productivity, whereas some jobs are as dependent, if not moreso, on availability-- someone simply being present. Sounds like your job is one of those, which explains the disconnect.

Me, too. That said, most of my opinions run counter, and deep, to many in here. Subsequently, actual discussions are sometimes hard to come by.

When I was in the corporate world (20+ years ago), there were many talks about reducing the work "hours". Studies had shown production drop-off levels after 6-7 hours of work per day. Nothing ever became of it, but it was at least discussed.

I remember working another job, whereas I worked swing shift in a printing company. I had a 4-day work week. 9 1/2 hour days, and got paid for 40 hours. I LOVED it! Man, SO many 3-day camping (etc.) getaways! That extra day made ALL the difference!

You have to admit when most all your opinions come from the same source as "Noah's Family Fun Zoo Boat" that tells us all animals are descendants from the two he happened to catch and we, as in all of humanity, are descendants of his and his children the discussion is tough to continue.
You can see why they might be hard to come by right?
