Honestly I doubt CJ really works on his defense beyond the basics because there’s no reason he shouldn’t be at least average. He’s a smart guy. He’s not small. He’s not slow. I don’t see anything that would prohibit him from at least improving. Compare him to Dame, who gets better every season. CJ needs to be held accountable just like everyone else, but that’s more on Stotts. Olshey isn’t trading him, so it’s the least this organization could do.

My only other takeaway is Hood needs more plays run for him. 9 field goals a game isn’t enough. Less CJ, more Hood ok thanks.

Oh, CJ...

Also, where's Zach? Is he sooooo white that he blends into the table?
Prolly doesn't meet min sample size. But then again, G Trent is on there. Weird. I think I see a white shoulder behind Whiteside. Maybe that's him?

So this is saying we'd be better on both ends if CJ/Simons simply sat on the bench. Ouch.

What is defensive points saved? Blocks+Steals? Because if so that's an awful representation of overall defense.

NBA Math has this formula partly using an adjusted DBPM among other things. Personally I don't like their formula but some people swear by it.

There's plenty of other (better imo) stats that paint a prettier picture of CJ's defense. Most notably RPM, RAPM and PIPM

And considering size for position and offensive workload, his ranks in those stats are fairly impressive.

I miss you posting regularly! Always enjoy reading your basketball takes even if I disagree.

4 games in.....and one single lob to a guy who is 7'1" with a 7'7" wingspan (thank you Baze). Seems like they might be missing some opportunities there. Some very easy ones.

None of our guys are good at lob passes. (The ones that have been thrown have been comically bad) Saying "how hard could a lob be?" doesn't make it any easier for them.

Also, we're 20th in ORTG, 19th in DRTG, 14th in Net rating.
