Monday, 12:46pm: Early voting in Florida has turned into a fiasco, as some voters have waited at least six hours to vote. According to the Huffington Post,

"They didn't have the infrastructure," filmmaker Lucas Leyva, who was among those turned away, told The Huffington Post's Janie Campbell. "We read the press release and everything that went out this morning, promising we'd be able to get absentee ballots and vote. We got here and there was a line of hundreds of people all being told the same thing, that that wasn't true anymore. You could drop off [a ballot], but they could not issue one."

And if getting turned away from the polls weren't enough of an indignity, some of those 180 people ended up getting their cars towed from the parking lot across the street, according to a Miami Herald reporter.

Given that this is occuring in Democratic-leaning areas, and also the fact that Republican Governor Rick Scott has refused to extend early voting hours, a Romney win in Florida and the general election could mean a major controversy, a la Florida in the 2000 presidential election.

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

...fuck, here we go AGAIN! :sigh:

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

so today, are they going to have signs for the special Florida Republican Voting line so I can get in easier? Or is this complete BS, again?

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

Do they have murals of Mitt on the walls of the polling places? Do they have Black Panthers monitoring the polling places and intimidating voters?

Go Blazers

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

I love Florida!!!! In other news; the black panthers are intimidating voters once again in Philly. Saying that Obama will be elected no matter what.

what are you getting at? that there is no such thing as democratic/republican leaning areas?

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

County election boards are responsible for voting in their districts.

LOL

What does the governor of Florida have to do with this?

The mural is understandable. The polling place is a school.

Ya know, if it weren't for the comedic absurdity of your posts maris, I think you'd be banned.

Hahahaha!!

Yes, I remember the Reagan murals when I was in elementary school.

Or if you're Obama, everything is Bush's fault. :)

In the month before the election, PapaG has started 10 times as many ridiculously biased threads.

And the Black Panther "news" is just Magnifier and Oldguy parroting what is all over Fox News today.

who did bush blame everything on?

edit: oh yeah the terrorists!

How about moving the polls to a different room. Gym, Auditorium, cafeteria. Do all those spaces have Obama murals? If so, are there no other schools that don't?

So if the biggest cable news channel reports it, it's not news? (Like the Bengazi non-story with the rest of the news channels?)

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

Ever since Bush started the war against Arabs, we in the U.S. have heard nothing but war propaganda. Now when a Democratic administration puts out a story when attacked, Fox politicizes it. I wish Democrats would politicize Republican war propaganda.

I find no humor in treasonous acts, nor have I ever done anything that would remotely warrant "banning" me.

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

If Maris is ever banned, I'm out of here.

I just went to the privatized liquor store a block away and paid $4 more for a bottle of rum than when it was state-run. I've had my first sips and am settling down for a happy election evening.

The perks of a "free? market". :biglaugh:

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

On the contrary, I usually buy my alcohol on base so that sales tax isn't charged. Here in Tampa, the bar across the street from my home has a package store attached that can steeply discount prices b/c they upcharge the bar drinks. So it's substantially (20%, on average) cheaper for me to get the stuff I drink there than on base, which adds up to a lot. I kind of like the ability to shop around for the best price. Sounds like you pay for convenience. :dunno:

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

Too complicated for my present state. I do remember my parents couldn't drink half of the pitcher of beer they bought at the NCO mess so my mother gave it to a couple just arrived and sitting down. It was 1965 and my dad was a colonel but for some reason we were at the enlisted men's place to eat at Hickam.

Re: Florida Governor rigging the election, again

My dad was a MSgt, and for Squadron Christmas parties and the like they'd rent out the E-Club b/c it was bigger. Maybe that was it.

I have so many specific memories of military life in the early 60s, it's a pity it will die with me.

For a kid, living on a military base is like a socialist commune. I have never had such a good lifestyle, before or since. A base has everything you could ever want.

it was before. I'm on the waiting list to move my family on base while I'm gone, and the amenities aren't nearly as good as they were when I was a kid. The theater's only 2x a week, there aren't an NCO or O-Club anymore, you need to pay $5/pp for the chow hall (which doesn't do every meal anymore), etc. The gyms seem better, and the family housing is way better (though I imagine O-4 housing is much better than E-5 housing). But we didn't lock doors, we knew a bunch of our neighbors, etc.

When I was in the military I really enjoyed base life. 100% employment, lots of good kids, lots of activities...

You have the crafts store (with Rat Fink models, B-58 models, etc.), the thrift store (where you sell your used home stuff), the indoor theater (where you watch the brand new movie Goldfinger for 15 cents under 12, 25 cents over 12), the PX (where you buy your 5 cent candybars and your big 10 cent candybars and your 10 cent comic books), your commissary (where you see the newspaper vending machine with headlines like "Marilyn Monroe commits suicide" or "It's Cassiuus Clay over Liston in TKO" your outdoor theater (with movies like "Lolita” or John Wayne in "Laredo").

Those were the good old days.
