By MARC BERMAN
June 20, 2007 -- Good news Knicks fans: Seattle?s Rashard Lewis is indeed a free agent and plans to visit New York for a recruiting trip if Isiah Thomas invites him July 1, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Thomas will make the 6-9 Lewis his top free-agent priority and hopes to wine and dine him, perhaps on James Dolan?s yacht, in July. Lewis was the center of a mini-controversy yesterday, with the report he could lose his free-agent status on a technicality by opting out a few days too early. Though the contract language was hazy on the date, the Sonics aren?t pursuing it.

The Sonics released a statement yesterday, saying ?It?s clearly understood by the Sonics and Rashard Lewis that he is a free agent.?

Agent Tony Dutt, who goes way back with Thomas as Marcus Camby?s first agent, told The Post yesterday Lewis will consider a half-dozen teams. Thomas is not allowed to talk with Lewis until July 1.

The Knicks would have to pull of a sign-and-trade to obtain the silky small forward scorer. The Knicks? heavy interest in Lewis demonstrates their unhappiness with last season?s free-agent catch, Jared Jeffries. Lewis can score several ways and he?s only 27.

?As far as the Knicks, it?s a great organization,? Dutt said.

One roadblock in obtaining Lewis is Lenny Wilkens? presence in the front office, as he would not want to do any favors for Thomas, who axed him nearly three years ago. However, reports out of Seattle suggest Wilkens has lost some of his power last week.

Is it possible to get Lewis and Kobe on the same team?
dunno.gif

It's more than likely that neither will end up on the Knicks, this is just like last year when K-Mart and a few others were coming our way.

Dampier was wined and dined by Isiah and he loved New York too.

Bottom line: no money = no free agents.

It seems like everyone is improving and we're staying on the same level every year. If the Bulls get Kobe,KG goes to Celtics ... and Toronto playing as they did last year. It can be hard getting back into the playoffs for the Knicks because like once again we have no fucking leader on the floor who can carry the team when they can't make a shot. Isiah on the other hand blowing smoke on the Knicks fans.

Thank you. At least someone has some sense here.

We have to wait till 2010 to get D-Wade and Lebron here ...it would be sick backcourt.

Yeah, but wait the Magic will trade you guys Dwight Howard for possibly Jerome James since they have the same contract and all.

<div class="quote_poster">CLos Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah, but wait the Magic will trade you guys Dwight Howard for possibly Jerome James since they have the same contract and all.</div>

Jerome Jame's contract expires in 2010 ...so everything is possible ... Magic already showed us what they can do. Example drafting shaq and than letting him go lol.

Yeah that's true. Also, I heard Carmelo wants to go to NY. Maybe a David Lee for Melo would work or Renaldo Balkman.

Hey why not...? If he does we'll make a place for him...I wouldn't trade Balkman for him though because he seems to be a little better but hey whatever happends i'mm cool with it. As long as Magic let Howard get away for nothing everyone will stay happy

Yeah, because the Magic don't know anything about management and of course the Knicks do.

Lol atleast we don't let go of our superstars, we provide them with more and more money! Thats our thing come on!

Yeah, but some of those guys are role players. I know letting go of Shaq was bad, but he wanted to go to LA also.

<div class="quote_poster">CLos Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah, but some of those guys are role players. I know letting go of Shaq was bad, but he wanted to go to LA also.</div>

Actually we haven't had a "superstar" since Ewing era!

Yeah I know. Ewing was the ish but you guys keep overpaying role players.

Thats a fact....look Orlando had T-mac and traded him again for 0 lol
dunno.gif

T-mac + Shaq would have been something to watch may be the same as Kobe + Shaq at tha time or even better,

Yeah but who says we would've had the cap room for T-Mac then. Also, at the time the trade was good if we didn't trade Cuttino and also McGrady wanted to leave.

I would offer Nate robinson,Channing Frye,Q Rich and Francis
for Rashard Lewis

You can have him for free instead then.

Frye and Lee are the two pieces that interest me from New York, and possibly Crawford.

Shard for Nate straight up, homie.

I'd do that.

Of course you would.

Well on the other hand ...I wouldn't want him here... because of the cap space and stuff like that. My hope is for 2010 line up to be PG D-Wade SG Balkman SF Lebron James PF David LEE C Eddy Curry thats my dream line up.
I think that without signning any costlly FA till 2010 we have a big chance getting Lebron and Wade here.

Yep, thx lol... I think that if Lebron won't win anything with the Cavs he would go to NY for the big "Market" in 2010 when we will have chances to get him with someone else. D-wade sees that Shaq is not the "Shaq" he used to be anymore and Miami heat is pretty much an old team now. May be, May be, May be with a good salary cap management for 3 years which I really doubt we will have, we can actually land some potential superstars to play for us. But again I doubt that happends. 1% is the right call on it. Agree. It's pretty hard to say what's going to happen tomorrow, we're talking about 3 years from now. Knicks can either suck again or be sold to a new owner which i hope will be done pretty soon.
Another thing...if we blow the next season may be we can pick O.J. Mayo lol

Why would you want Renaldo Balkman to start at SG?

Sigh. You don't want Rashard because of cap space but you think you'll get Dwyane Wade and LeBron James? Blasphemy.

He is like Bowen shut down SF,SG player. Hustler and he is improving on his shot. Good player overall.
