This is what I was worried about. Maynors in limbo. His pricetag is going up. Hopefully other teams sleep on him.
Yr G Min PPG RPG APG
12-13 Por 13 20.7 7.1 1.4 3.5
I think the blazers will actually extend the QO to maynor. I think they will try and renegotiate his contract and get it squared away quickly. He will get around 2.5-3.5 mil per for the next 3 years.
It would be a huge mistake if Portland doesn't. Maynor has the ability to keep the pressure off of Lillard. Basically, maynor makes Lillard better; as crazy as it sounds.
if he takes 2.5, then you waive him, use up all your space, and then use your room exception to bring him back.
Would we even need to wave him? If we just agree to a price; just give it to him. I understand your point; but sometimes it's better to guarantee his return. Any "wave" is gambling. If we don't keep maynor than we pay much more for a decent backup pg.

you go to him and say 4 years, 10 million. He says ok, you say we're using our room exception, please hold. If you do it immediately, you lose that 2.5 in space.

Doesn't that eat into any cap room we have to get a FA we want to sign?
If olshey feels he can land something of value with the space it makes a ton of sense to let maynor go. You can grab a backup pg with the room exception after we use up our cap
Blazers are in a tough position. Maynor gels with the team, but he is probably getting attention around the league now. If I'm Maynor, I play out the free agent market to see how much I can get. If I'm the Blazers, I like mags idea and offer the qualifying while trying to work out a quick deal.
Can that qualifying offer be withdrawn if Blazers want to make a big offer to a free agent?
No it can't be withdrawn until someone offers him a contract.
If we lose maynor because we try and save money for free agents; we will feel the burn.

His qualifying offer would be 5.8M. The second we give him that he would sign it.
Freeman is right but there is a very good chance Maynor comes back.
I don't love it, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we offer Bynum 3/40M with the 3rd year non-guaranteed. Few others that have cap space have the luxury of offering a guy coming off of knee surgery that much. We're not going to get Dwight to come to Little ol' Portland for just 13M a year. Then figure out if we can S&T Freeland or someone for him to open up some space, or just fill out the roster after:
Dame/Wes/Nic/LMA/Bynum with a room exception and minimum contracts.
IMO Bynum is NOT an option unless he signs for 5 mil per which he won't, no way we take that risk, and even at5 mil per he's a risk
