The McDonald's hamburger on the right is from 2008; the one on the left is from 1996. And they both look fairly edible.

Wellness educator and nutrition consultant Karen Hanrahan has kept a McDonald's hamburger since 1996 to illustrate its nonexistent ability to decay. Aside from drying out and bit and having "the oddest smell," it apparently hasn't changed much in the past 12 years.

This isn't the first time someone kept an uneaten McDonald's hamburger for an extended period of time for the sake of science. Or in the case of the Bionic Burger Museum, multiple burgers for over 19 years. There are even instructions on how to start your own collection of old, self-preserving burgers.

Who can't tell the old bun from the new bun? Pfftttt.

Damnm i was unsure at first. Wouldn't normally touch Mcdonalds anyway. I only have Indian or Chinese Takeaway which is better. Not many fat Chinese or Indian people banging about are there?

I picked the one on the left as the fresh one!

That's why I don't eat McDonalds burgers. Burger Kings, Hardees, and a few others have so much better burgers.

I showed it to two of my co-workers...all three of us picked wrong. That's pretty horrible.

well i thought it was the left one at first because the burger looks fresher but the bap gave it away.

Was it frozen or refrigerated? Most things will maintain their appearance if frozen, especially things that are already cooked.

Good question. I don't believe it stayed in that form without any refrigeration.

They didn't say it went through any refrigeration. Though won't it have molded?

the bag under the one on the left gave away that it was not the fresh one.

If you read the article, it says there is a section of a museum that has instructions on how to keep 'self-preserving' burgers. To me that means no added preservation technique.

Who cares? Food only stays in your stomach for a day or two...

That is the point of this experiment. It might take more time to digest than expected.

Wow, that's disgusting. Oh well, I'll never have to worry about eating McDonalds burgers for a couple reasons. First and foremost, I don't like ground beef. I think it's rather disgusting...though I do love steak. Secondly, I don't eat McD's anymore. I got sicker than shit from their food a couple years back and ended up puking my guts out for basically 2 hours straight. I don't know if it was food poisoning or what, but I hadn't felt that bad in a very long time.

Me and my Homies Often roll up to Mcdonalds and get some Ghetto Burgers

Because of the existence of this photo, this guy will never get laid... unless it's by some 750 lb woman who thinks it's 2 dudes moving about in a huge hamburger.
