It's a groundhog day argument here...when you've said everything you feel about guns and senseless shootings to the same people after a while, it just becomes the same post and yes, it sucks that mass shootings are becoming as commonplace here as they are in backwater dictatorships around the world. The escalation of weapons around the globe right now is fucking scary..

Violent crime happens a lot in the US. Until we get serious about improving the general living conditions of our population (Gini Coefficient) that's not going to change much.

States with Lowest Murder Rates
The states with the lowest murder rates in the US are

New Hampshire - 1.5 murders per 100,000 people (F on gun safety strictness - rating favors more restrictions)
Maine - 2.9 (F)
Massachusetts - 3.3 (A-)
Pennsylvania - 3.3 (C+)
Idaho - 3.7 (F)
Vermont - 3.7 (C-)
Rhode Island - 4.2 (B+)
Oregon - 4.4 (C+)
Hawaii - 4.5 (A-)
Utah - 4.5 (D)

Gun ownership rates and gun laws don't make people safer or more dangerous. There are many other considerations. Restricting law abiding people and other people who are not causing these problems should be among our lowest priorities, IMO.

I can’t find where the gun strictness ratings are but can you tell me what the grades are for these states?

The strictness ratings are there if you click the red ratings.

I think those states will rate poorly. However, I also think they are among the worst regarding access to education, healthcare, and social safety nets as well.

I clicked on the red ratings and they took me to the page with the list of homicides per state only; I didn't see any ratings. That's the only reason I asked here, I thought maybe the links were messed up.

Yeah, it's a good read, and fairly well thought out. Though I have trouble looking at firearm death rates without comparing them to overall violent crime and murder rates. It's hard for me to take studies like that seriously.

It says those regions are descendants of more violent ancestors. And pins it on culture.

I'm sure there is something to that. And that's partly why I think gun restrictions are mostly ineffective at reducing violent crime or murder rates.

This is really getting to be some tired shit.....

I prefer that nobody has guns, no private individuals, no police. Is that going to happen? NO.

So, the only logical option is to enforce rules that take guns away from mentally ill, high-risk people, elaborate background checks, make it very difficult to get guns. Is that going to happen? NO. Not if red state redneck motherfuckers perceive anything as a violation of their "rights".

This is the wild west, and most of the country is dumber than dirt.
 
As long as we don’t take away anybody’s rights.
 
Gun violence is winning the war with gun safety. If there were ever an oxymoron it'd be "gun safety"
