No guns isn't a realistic option in the US. Kids are safer without cars. Kids are safer without swimming pools. Kids are safer without playing sports. Kids are safer without stepfathers.

I'm not about spending time in some fairy-tale world that isn't possible.

So, as much as you would like it, unfortunately I don't think that will ever happen.
Just seems there is a benefit from pools, cars, stepfathers and airplanes etc. They serve a positive purpose in life. We all want to use cars to get to places. They are fairly necessary. Then there are guns.

Guns are used for good quite regularly, it's just that prevented mass shootings and other prevented crimes don't get the same attention.

So when a mass shooting happens where the assailant is sadly not stopped and kills lots of people, you get the "hurr durr where's the good guy with a gun?" bs because people are not aware of incidents like this.

Good guys with guns defend themselves and stop crimes hundreds of thousands to millions of times a year. They just don't get a month of news coverage and a Bloomberg financed march.

Remember that this includes everything from killing an assailant, down to simply brandishing a gun to dissuade a potential attacker.

Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.

The lowest end estimates are around 70,000 a year. Which is still 6-7x our gun homicides, and far more than all gun deaths.

I just don’t get excited about the idea that guns are good because they stop guns that are so terrible. Feels like paying your credit card bill with another credit card. Guns are out of control. Period. America has a love affair with them. Nobody else does. The world thinks we are a joke.

This isn't about stopping other guns. It's about having the means to defend oneself from all crime.

You see, in my opinion, all crime and violence is equally bad regardless of the tool used. Not just crime and violence that is committed with guns.

So when examining crimes and violence I tend to look at overall violence and crime, and thereby advocate for policies which impact all crime rather than just gun crime.

Sure All crime and violence is bad. Yes. But violence with a gun is more concerning than other forms of violence. All criminals are criminals but petty theft and murder are not the same.

Why is violence with a gun more concerning? Is it better to be bludgeoned to death with a club?

*Edit* Of course petty crime and murder are not the same. But petty crime with a gun is the same as petty crime with a knife. Murder with a car is the same as murder with a gun.

I used to work at subway. I've seen some people unreasonably irate over their sandwich orders. Some newer employees not putting enough or too much of something...customers saying that's not enough meat, even though it's standard. I have had to step in and calm some people down.

I have had other interesting encounters/moments as well.

When I worked the night shift, I had someone come in, grab a bunch of chips off the rack, yell, "THESE ARE MINE" like an evil movie villain and run out the door into the night.

I had guy who was cheating on his wife, came in every other night with his mistress and would talk openly about his goings on.

I had a guy try to pull a change scam on me, asking for change in different ways, to try and trick me into giving him more money then he was giving me. It didn't work at all.

I was always waiting to be robbed during the night shift. Thankfully, it never happened...other than the chips.

I have had interesting sandwich orders like just mayonnaise on bread.

But, hey to each their own.

Until the MAGA army is held accountable for Jan 6th I expect more of this to continue from the cult of fascists and dictators...no credibility is left for that group...zero. It's no longer up for debate. Jail the MAGA terrorists now...all of them. Preferably in cages on the border. Until we resolve the insurrection over the last election, expect to see more of this shit. Fuck this kid and his GI Joe outfit...fucking evil son of a bitch..

Couldn't have stated it better. The “harmless propaganda” by the right wing sure isn’t harmless is seems :bored:

“The number 14 is used by white supremacists as a shorthand reference to the so-called "14 Words," which is the most popular white supremacist slogan in the world: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."

“White genocide”
