Hi guys, first post I've ever made on here. Have been all over this forum for the last few months and decided it was high time I actually joined in! (It's a long way from Australia and nobody else I know likes the Blazers...)

My question is: what are we gonna do this season in terms of our front court rotation? Who would you like to see starting?

I'd prefer we start the Legend at the 4 and Mase at the 5 (at the same time I absolutely love watching Meyers play as a stretch 5).
Also looking forward to seeing Vonleh and Davis progress. Can't really see Kaman getting that many minutes.

:smiley-beerchug:

Meyers (30)/Davis (18)
Plumlee (25)/Davis (6)/Vonleh (17)

Positions are all interchangeable between those 4 guys tbh.

I think Davis > Biebs, but as one poster mentioned Biebs may start regardless because of reasons of fit.

I'm fine with either Meyers or Vonleh starting. I think Davis will be the starting center with Plums coming off the bench, but honestly, right now I think it's anyone's guess. It's on these guys to show up and prove they deserve the starting nod.

Mostly agreed. Theoretically if Stotts is actually trying to win, then I see Kaman at backup C and Davis at backup PF. If it's more about development, then I see Davis at C and Vonleh at PF. Either way, I want to see the Nards/Plums starting frontcourt.

I really hope they give Leonard a big chunk of playing time. Towards the end of last season he really began to play well IMO.

Nards with 28 mpg between both spots.
Plums with 22 mpg at center.
Davis with 26 mpg between both spots.
NV with 20 mpg mainly at pf.

This is exactly right.

I don't want to see Kaman anywhere near the court.

I actually really don't either. He would be a great mentor and guy to have in the locker room but if we're in rebuild/retool/rewhatever mode I would rather see the young guys out there.

Welcome Aussie!

What's with all of the Aussies, do you guys think we're going to get Ben Simmons next year? :welcome:

I think Davis will play a lot, I think Plumlee will see a generous amount of minutes and I suspect Meyers will get plenty of opportunities. But predicting rotations and who will get starting assignments and who will finish games is impossible to predict, mainly becuase we have no idea what role Stott's envisions for these guys.

This is going to be tough for Stotts. My default position is to run a meritocracy. OTOH, if you don't force-feed Vonleh playing time you will never know for sure if there is any hope for him. On the third hand, if Davis and Aminu excel it gives the team potentially valuable trade chips.

First I would like to say "Welcome to the board!"

I would love to see Nards being the starter at 4 if that's even possible. I would like an even split of Plumlee and Davis at center. Use Kaman as the third string center and back up at 4. Von be the development guy at 4,5

Hey, it's great to have you here! Welcome!

Man, if Meyers is playing 25 minutes a game we can kiss this season goodbye... although lets face it, it'll be funner than hell

First of all, welcome to the board. Hope you convert a few more from Down Under to be Blazers fans. Now, on to your query.

I think minutes will depend on rotations. You can't really play Plumlee and Davis together much because neither players outside of 5' from the rim. So Meyers would seem the more obvious choice to start at PF since I think Plumlee starts at C. Then if there is a smaller backup Center, I think you see Davis there with Vonleh at PF. On the few nights there is a really big backup C, that is where Sasquatch gets a few minutes from time to time.

This is the most logical thing I have heard all week. I still wanna start the Big Fella though. I like his whirling dervish post game and passing with what is almost certainly going to be an offensively challenged first unit, to say the least.

leonard (30)- vonleh (10)- davis (8)
plumlee (28)- leonard (6)- davis (6)- kaman (6)

Welcome..I pretty much agree but think Kaman will be playing early and Vonleh later off the bench..1st half Kaman, 2nd half Vonleh. Another Aussie posts here, DUB..down under blazer..he posted on the Joel Freeland thread recently

I want Meyers and Plumlee to start. Dunks and dunks and a few 3s mixed in would be fun to watch.

This exactly. The contrast of inside/outside scoring would be fun to watch, hopefully they can take the next step and increase production. They can both throw it down, that's for sure!

Agree we can't play Davis and Plumlee together at all since neither can shoot outside the paint. I think they basically split 48 minutes. Keeps them fresh and full of energy. Meyers will get a big opportunity this year and we'll need his court spacing to improve our mediocre unproven options in the half court.

Kaman is available in games when the second unit is lacking offense. We can basically run an offense through him for 5 minute stretches. Kaman has a solid jumper so he could play alongside Davis or Plumlee depending on matchups.

Sure we want to see the young guys play but we don't want them getting blown out or struggling to get a shot multiple possessions in a row. Having them in the game and completely failing is worse for their development than watching from the bench.

Unfortunately out of the 5 big men we can almost guarantee one will be injured for a long stretch. So Vonleh will get his chance this season. I'm fine with him watching a number of games the first month and easing into the rotation as the season goes along. If he earns a spot in the rotation before that sure give him a chance. We just don't need to be in a rush to hand him minutes immediately.
