Unbelievable! I do half the work due tomorrow and ask another guys to do the other half. All he has to do is print out 4 pages of financial reports for IBM from Google and a one page summary of the company...Look what this dumb motherfucker sends me....

International Business Machines Corporation, abbreviated IBM, is a multinational computer technology and IT consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York, United States. The company is a descendant of the Tabulating Machine Company, which was formed in 1896 by US inventor Herman Hollerith to exploit his punched-card machines and is one of the few information technology companies with a continuous history dating back to the 19th century. Founded in 1924, by former cash register salesperson Tom Watson, IBM grew to monopolize the mechanical data processing business, and in the 1950s, thanks mainly to Tom Watson Jr, also quickly took over the new electronic (computer-based) data processing business. IBM manufactures and sells computer hardware and software (with a focus on the latter), and offers infrastructure services, hosting services, and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology.[2]
IBM's sales increased from $734 million US dollars in 1956 to $51 billion US dollars in 1986, when the company dominated most computer markets: mainframes, mid-range computers, personal computers, and networking. However, with the rise of powerful microprocessors, much of IBM's power was destroyed and in the early 1990s it lost billions of dollars and shed almost half its 420,000 staff.

By 1991, IBM had an annual turnover $64.8 billion US dollars and employed about 345,000 people, but in 1992 and 1993 it had considerable losses. The company acquired Lotus Development Corporation in 1995. By 1997 IBM had, under new management, recovered financially and in 2007 IBM's total revenue was worth $99 billion US dollars and having 330,000 employees in 75 countries, made it the world's largest information technology company.
IBM has been well known through most of its recent history as the world's largest computer company and systems integrator.[3] With over 388,000 employees worldwide, IBM is the largest and most profitable information technology employer in the world. IBM holds more patents than any other U.S. based technology company and has eight research laboratories worldwide.[4] The company has scientists, engineers, consultants, and sales professionals in over 170 countries.[5] IBM employees have earned five Nobel Prizes, four Turing Awards, five National Medals of Technology, and five National Medals of Science.[6] As a chip maker, IBM has been among the Worldwide Top 20 Semiconductor Sales Leaders in past years. It has been nicknamed "Big Blue" for its official corporate color.

Now go look at IBM on wikipedia

Notice oh I dunno......word for word copying?!? What a fucking moron. I put in on Microsoft Word and all the words come up hyperlinked! I'm kicking him out of the group and just told him by email...he will have a rude surprise at class if he doesnt check his email

I hate stupid people

Ya know, I know there's cussing allowed in threads.....but, to me, it sure would be nice if it were kept out of of thread titles.

You should of e-mailed him like "Call me" and when he does be like, "Hey, can I read you something" and read directly from the website and see if it sounds familiar. And when he says he did copy and paste it, tell him you're gonna beat him down with a pipe.

the dude is 40ish!!! I thought he would have known better...evidently 40 year olds just know how to cheat...badly

he just emailed me back...
Dude didn't mean to upset you or do anything to get kicked out of the group. I can still re-write this thing even though you said you are going to do it. I have been under the gun this wknd with studying for the economics test and having my daughter. I apologize about the plagarism thing. I haven't been in school for sometime (not trying to come up with excuses) let me know if you still don't want me in the group, for I did not intend, nor would I ever intend to get anyone kicked out of school for plagarizing.

Jason

Im taking the same "test"...the teacher goes over the chapter for 2 hours before the QUIZ, not test

What should I do?

I say give him ONE more chance. Since he is having a baby and all. If that is even true. But if he is that old and doing stuff like this??!? People don't change.

If it wasn't for him saying he is having a baby, I would say fuck him and kick his lazy ass out.

you misread him.....he has had the kid for i dont know how many years (2-7years?). I guess hes divorced and it was his time with the kid.

He is not "having" a kid...nobody is birthing his child this weekend

Well in that case, I say drop the guy. He is a shitty teammate.

I agree...Im too forgiving...that, and I didnt want to write it...

What I wrote him:

Now you have an idea on why I hate school group projects. You're are putting ALL of us at risk by doing something like that. In case you are unaware plagiarism will get you kicked out of school. Also, teachers have computer programs where they can enter a sentence or two from your essay and see if it was used anywhere on the internet.

Go ahead...write it again. Bring it to class but also email it to me as soon as you're done.

I hate being a dick but cmon... I'm not going to take the fall for your choices. Dont do anything like this in regards to this group project again.

Also email me asap that you received this message so I can sleep easy

anyone who doesn't know how to paraphrase from wikipedia and then use the reference links at the bottom as their references doesn't deserve to be in school.

Word.

If it was his weekend with his daughter, then I think you can justify forgiving him.

It would take a little over a hour (if that)to do a decent one page write up on IBM. I seriously doubt he goes to bed at the same time as her. Im so fucking pissed at him. The worst part is he sits next to me in 2 of my 4 classes.

He responded to my email and said he will write it tonight and send me a copy. Ill post it on here. We can all check for plagiarism! :ghoti:

I think my favorite part of this post is the fact that he didn't even remove the numerical references or hyperlinks from Wikipedia

Pretty unbelievable. Surely, nobody would EVER think to blatantly copy/paste something from Wikipedia! And surely the instructor would never figure that out! Talk about an automatic A+. BRILLIANT!!!

Seriously!!!!! I first saw it in a document viewer and they werent there...when I put it into microsoft word all the hyperlinks showed up! What a fuckin moron

This scenario sounds like an episode of that new NBC series "Community". DaRizzle, perhaps you should write this up in script form and send it in.

I thought a university would have been better....mine isnt at least

I know right?! lol what a moron.

Still though, as rocketeer said, paraphrase from wiki and use the reference links. That wouldn't take him that long at all!!!

I don't know if I'd put it on the university, but rather on the individual. It sounds like you just have someone interested in getting a degree rather than actually learning. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Over time, you'll find people with whom you can work.

meh...i dunno, obviously some universities are better than others. Everybody has been guilty of doing shallow research...but this obviously crosses the line

Although, honestly, how much more do you learn from paraphrasing wikipedia than you do from copying from wikipedia? A little, I guess, but both seem like a waste of time to me.

barfo

At least if you paraphrase, you actually read the material. Copy and paste, you don't read anything. I assume... lol

lots of things(and specifically things related to group projects) you do in school are wastes of time. is there really that much to learn from writing a one page summary of a company?

Most teachers use these kind of research projects to find out a person/group's research and writing skills. Unless it's like middle of semester, then they're worthless unless they're gauging improvement.

I would of booted this mofo already

This part of the project was very much the tip of the iceberg...I agree, a one page write up is very remedial

2 hours and still waiting for a one page paper

lol...he still cut and pasted some words cause I cant unbold them
International Business Machines , abbreviated IBM, was incorporated June 15, 1911, and is headquartered in Armonk, New York. IBM is most associated with the manufacturing and selling of computer hardware and software. It is one of only a few companies that has a history which dates back to the 19th century. With more than 330,000 employees worldwide and revenues that reached $96 billion in 2004, IBM is the largest information technology company in the world. IBM was founded in 1924, by former cash register salesperson Tom Watson. During the mid 1950s, Tom Watson Jr helped IBM to monopolize their mechanical data processing business. This allowed IBM to quickly take over the new electronic (computer-based) data processing business.
IBM’s dedication to computer sciences and information technology shows in their diverse background of engineers to consultants, who are spread out over more than 170 countries, and have expertise in the areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology. The companies laboratories can be found throughout the world. IBM has had more revenue, in recent years, with services and consulting than from manufacturing. On January 29, 2002, Samuel J Palmisano was elected as the CEO for IBM where he helped IBM Global Services earn $100 billion in backlog in 2004.
Since joining hands with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in 2002, IBM has become a powerhouse in business advisory. The company has a commitment to excellence in and continues to remain focused on key elements from their software and services, to their consulting, and they place a huge emphasis on hardware technologies. As of 2004, IBM employs over 190,000 technical experts which includes some 300 to 400 Distinguished Engineers. IBM employees have earned five Nobel Prizes, four Turing Awards, five National Medals of Technology and five National Medals of Science with just as many other awards that came from outside the U.S. IBM has been nicknamed "Big Blue" for its official corporate color.
