what does it mean when there is a light blue highlight around 2 paragraphs when I put it on Microsoft word and printed it out (came out light gray on paper)? You could see it on the comp screen and when I printed it..

Did this moron just cheat again but from a slightly deeper source?!?

he's using some old as fuck numbers too, 2002? 2004? even their linkedin page is more updated...

looks like he's just re-ordered/badly paraphrased the same shit he gave you before.

pretty sad for a person of that age.

ha, you could write something better than that in 10 minutes. just print out the wiki page and a few other sources reference them and wing it

I think the fact that the guy is 40 he assumed things were like when he was in high school, teachers didn't have a copy of all the Encyclopedias.

That excuse is the one thing that really gets on my nerves about parents in school. If your kid is getting in the way of your school, then you clearly need to focus on your kid. I'm against people making excuses for someone because of their choice to have kids early, or their choice not to go to college at a young age. (uh oh, I don't sound like a lefty nut job) I remember at OSU there was some money that the students had a vote on how to use. All of the club sports came out and asked it to be used on turf fields (which half of the money ended up going to). But like four, 30 year old moms came and said they wanted it all to be used for a day care center. Here's a tip, you wouldn't need to pay for day care if you paid for that condom ;]

You should tell him that wikipedia is not* an accepted source for college papers. Then suggest he could look at the sources linked at the bottom of the page.

DaRizzle, you need to protect yourself and drop this guy like a hot potato. Plagiarism is a serious offense.

update: so I have the final in this class in 3 hours..

This group project was a nightmare. I had the dumbass already mentioned not do any more work after his plagiarism, had another guy do absolutely NOTHING, and the two other guys who were supposed to crunch the numbers for the 2007 and 2008 financial reports only do half of it because of miscommunication between them and our Chinese teacher who can barley speak English.

So the power-point presentation was last Monday and we had to go up there with only half the work...FUCK! I really needed a good grade on this and now we are screwed since the oral presentation is half the grade. Other groups didnt understand what she wanted either so she allowed our final powerpoint to be emailed by Friday.

So I write 12 paragraphs of analysis (since I was sick of trying to get other people to do shit) and give it to my member to email within our complete power point presentation file. He email a jacked up version that wont load on the professors computer and I dont see an email until last night from her saying that she couldnt open the file. I troubleshoot the problem and resend it.

So we almost had plagiarism
Had 1/2 an oral presentation
PP that worked finally delivered 2 days after extended due date

She gave us 90/100, above the class average by 5 points!!!!! holy shit! :ghoti:

Im making deans list for the first time in my life bitches (also happens to be the first year I actually put decent effort into school)

:ghoti: :ghoti: :ghoti:

Good job! (get ready for the back handed compliment).

Not bad for a Laker fan. You're the exception to the rule, that all Laker fans are idiots.

Group work is such a freaking myth. I am so glad I am done with school, because being in the school of business, EVERYTHING was group work and I was lucky enough to have the same kids in my groups over and over except for one class.
But this group work bullcrap is a myth. In all of my internships and jobs since college, there has been no group work or "projects".

Turn him in ASAP.

Academic fraud is the worst thing a student can do scholastically, and the fact that he did it off of wikipedia means he probably doesn't belong in college anyhow.

little late for that. no plagiarized work was ever turned in...I caught it before that happened

I assume you still have his emailed work?

Since you're a Laker fan, you may want to consider blackmailing him prior to turning him in.

I have Dick Bavetta on speed dial (all Lakers fans do)...Ill put him on the case :devilwink:

So this 40 year old father decides to cut and paste instead of rewriting it so he can spend time with his 7 year old daughter . . and the majority wants him turned in and to get in trouble over this.

I'm glad you handled it the way you did darizzle.

Happy Holidays to all!

Now if that was Steve Blake . . . that is a diferent matter.

NS... and what's with the age bias thing? So he's 40? So what? I've seen many more stupid people aged 18-25 than stupid 40 year old people. If people aged 40 are supposed to be the epitome of all knowledge and instruction then why don't you twerps show a little more respect?

Stupid kids. Stupid babies.

Stupid babies need the most attention.

Was this the "Barack Obama Grading Curve"?

Seriously, congrats. Put those idiots in yoru rearview mirror and never deal with them again.

I wish I had been assigned group projects when I was in Fuck School...

Just found out my grade in the class.

A
:ghoti:

lowest "A" that wasnt an "A-"....hell yeah

BUMP!

Guess what, I still hate group projects. So after a weekend of nobody responding to my emails I will have to finish this portion of the group project by myself.

Group Projects were invented for lazy teachers...there is nothing "real world" about it

group projects suck. always need an alpha dawg to run the shit and tell people what to do.

I think my favorite part of this post is the fact that he didn't even remove the numerical references or hyperlinks from Wikipedia

Pretty unbelievable. Surely, nobody would EVER think to blatantly copy/paste something from Wikipedia! And surely the instructor would never figure that out! Talk about an automatic A+. BRILLIANT!!!

Awesome. I had a girl last semester who turned in an obviously plagiarized paper, then explained it by saying "I'm sorry, I was really busy and had my friend write it for me, I didn't think she would have just copied something".

Seriously. She then went on to suggest I contact one of her professors at the school she goes to full time (this was a summer class) to vouch for her character. :biglaugh:

how is people being lazy and wanting others to do work for them not "real world"?

he's the asian workhorse in the real world!

Too much to follow in the entire thread, but let me give you my two-cents.

I think plagiarism is now taken VERY seriously in colleges and universities, and it is really because many professors have projects and styles based to teach students to learn using the old disipline of research and creative thought. The problem is the best way for a busy 40-something year old executive to find a history of IBM to put somewhere in their document would be to Google it (just like you said) and copy and paste the best summary (likely Wiki). So he did just what you would expect a busy, educated professional would do in the modern work force. So props to him.

I wouldn't want to give one of my employees a project and have them have to re-invent the wheel in order to come up with the end product. That's a waste of my money and lowers my share-holder value. So like I said, it is taken seriously, because today's modern student that would succeed in the market would be finding the best use of their time and using the internet or information age to quickly complete the task that was assigned to them, and it was up to the instructor to make assignments that utiliize this modern "plagiarism" and somehow incorporate it into their project along with the creative thought that goes beyond it.

Anyway, like I said, just my two-cents. But I've always thought if someone could plagiarize and actually turn it in, then the instructor was too stuck in teaching the 90's way of instructing. Probably not much you can do to fix it if we're talking a community college or state school like PSU or OSU, but still it is sad to know some professors still haven't caught up with the age and try and preserve their antique styles using obsolete things like "plagiarism" as their reason to not get into the next century of copying and pasting information already written for you.
