Great once again another state proves that a lot of it's population, is critically stupid. The problem being, is that when the critically stupid people start running the education system, it will go right down the sewer.

Texas wants to secede? Please do. You can name your country "Big Stupid Texas".

A lot of it's population? It's a story of 15 people trying to re-write some text books.

But NYC with their unfirable teachers hanging out in Rubber Rooms = works!

The biggest problem I have with the texas school board is that most of them have no formal education in the subjects they are trying to change. You don't see history teachers trying to tell dentists how to clean teeth. Why would you do the reverse?!

Ha! Critically stupid people have been running the educational system in this country for a long time. The educational elite all believe that Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers were mysoginist racists and liars, and that the United States is a corrupt and fundamentally flawed entity. If Texas wants to write their own version of history, why shouldn't they? It can't be any more erroneous than what kids are already learning.

You'll have to do more than that, to prove me to me there's more than 15 people in the state of Texas.

Obama had no formal education in running anything---a city, a state, or a company--and yet he's running the United States. If he can do that, I see no reason why the Texas School Board can't make some changes in their textbooks.

Somebodies fishing...somebodies fishing...

so just to be clear, you think a law degree and serving on congress is to president as dentistry is to history.

Man, I didn't realize you were a historian! Sweet! Could you tell me where you studied the life of Thomas Jefferson that prove these things to be untrue?

Classic. Just classic.

The funny thing to me is that I don't know if anything I read in history class was true. If dummies like these changed the lessons before I was in school... who knows what happened?

I did get a laugh at the Atlantic Triangular Trade.

Me too. Are we going to call black people "triangles" now?

This is a big deal hee in Texas. Lot's of people protesting on both sides.

I have decided I am ok with adding something, like this country being founded on Christian values, but I really hope they don't take stuff out.

Texas is known for everything there being big, but nothing is bigger than their collective ignorance.

Sad that the last stand of America's bravest patriots (at The Alamo) is now inhabited by cowards so afraid of facing reality that they would lie to their own children about it.

Last Fall I posted here how Texas is the worst state in the Union. Sebastian Express didn't like it. Probably a Texan. Or almost as bad, an Okie.

I said that if you read the Odd News on any news site (like Yahoo) you will find half the articles emanating from Texas. Every war this country has entered in the last 50 years has been started by a Texan president. The DeLay politics is corrupt from top to bottom. The Wacky World of Waco is all about the Religious Right. This country would be an advanced liberal nation like those in Europe if we could just talk the Mexicans into taking back the Lone Star State, but Mexicans aren't dumb.

You Texans should clear the tumbleweeds out of your ears. Wandering around the range drinking sagebrush soup will drive anyone loco. Why don't you nomads find a preacher and make it legal with your burro? You need to provide an education for Little Eeyore.

Aside from everything else, this isn't true. And I don't know that calling a polygamous cult that follows a Texan Jesus Impersonator "all about the religious right" is necessarily correct, either.
Do the Texans stop us from using Nuclear Power, like those European Advanced Nations?

Here is a little insight into what might be going on

Before we tackle history - a little math.

The Texas Board of Education has 5 Democrats, and 10 Republicans, 7 of whom vote as a conservative block.

What does that mean? They control what happens here.

While liberals yesterday packed the hearing room, held news conferences, and shouted ‘don’t indoctrinate, just educate’ and ‘get your hands off our textbooks, leave it to the experts’, sources here say 10 years ago, when Democrats enjoyed an identical majority, they too manipulated the curriculum to fit their agenda.

The debate began when a review group of teachers recommended replacing Christmas with a Hindu holiday and removing partially or entirely Alexander Graham Bell, Albert Einstein, religious references, and Christopher Columbus.

There are two sets of changes sought by conservatives.

Board Member Don McLeroy will address the below ideas at the meeting:

1. Contrast what the Founding Fathers meant by separation of church and state vs. how it is practiced by government today

2. Analyze the cause and effect of eugenics: Early in the 20th Century, 60,000 poor and mostly minority Americans were sterilized against their will because they were considered genetically inferior…

3. Evaluate efforts by the United Nations to undermine U.S. sovereignty including a gun ban and the redistribution of American wealth

4. Discuss the fiscal health of Social Security and Medicare

5. Discuss government abuse of property rights and the taking of land w/o compensation – and the adverse impact of affirmative action on when more qualified workers are passed over by minority applicants

Liberals say changes eliminate academic freedom and overplay Biblical values. While, conservatives say this is just an attempt to bring balance back to curriculum that liberals hijacked years ago.

Except this country was not founded on Christian values. The Constitution is clear, "we the people" are the highest authority. It was not by accident there is no mention of any god in the Constitution.

They are deleting not just Jefferson but also Isaac Newton. Damn godless scientist (although in fact Newton was devoutly Protestant, but let's not let facts get in the way).

God is referrenced in the Declaration of Independence though. I think you are grapsing for something, and really don't want to get into this argument because we probably think more a like than you know.

I thnk separation of church and state has gone too far. My kids aren't allowed to say the Pledge of Allegience in school?????Are you kidding me??? They can't wear something that says Merry Christmas or even something that says Holidays because Holidays comes from Holy days. Yet God forbid one of my kids say something to someone wearing a religious article from their religion.

They shouldn't delete anything in the text books, but there should be things added that were changed in the past by liberals

Again, like with those 7 year olds dancing, you are delusional if you think it's just "liberals" who changed things in history books and society (in the manner you speak of).

Pure 100% delusional.

These are clearly leading questions that are trying to make the youth question the current government.
