So this is for next year? Who are the top 4 teams?

:crystalball:

Los Angeles
Denver
Cleveland
OKC? :dunno:

I have an Insider account.

Here's the real rankings:
1. OKC
2. Lakers
3. Orlando
4. Heat.
5. Us

Portland moves up a spot from the last edition of the Future Power Rankings, mostly because the news on its young players has been largely positive. Second-year guard Jerryd Bayless has emerged as an offensive force off the bench, rookies Dante Cunningham and Jeff Pendergraph have shown they can contribute, and second-year forward Nic Batum returned from injury with a vengeance.

The Blazers did cash in one chip, trading Travis Outlaw for veteran Marcus Camby, but we had already discounted the likelihood of Outlaw returning. Of greater concern going forward is the uneven second season from Rudy Fernandez and the stalled development of forward LaMarcus Aldridge -- and, of course, our continued questions about Greg Oden's ability to stay healthy.

(Previous rank: 6)

OKC is primed to get better...all great young talent....but usually it doesnt go that smooth (as you guys know).....we shall see if the keep steadily climbing up the ladder

If they ever got a decent big man, they'd be unstoppable. Imagine that team with Brooke Lopez.

I really can't see how Orlando and Miami are going to be such great teams a few years from now. Dwight is the key to Orlando but I think their other core solid players (Carter, Nelson, Lewis) are all getting older and fading. Miami could do well in the hyped 2010 free agency but they are only a decent team right now and not really up and coming in my opinion. The Lakers will still do well because when Kobe was gone they almost seemed to be playing better. OKC is the new darling team of America, but just like us, I think that they'll face some injuries or other difficulties soon. I can't see Durant staying healthy forever, he hardly has any physical build to his body. When our team is fully healthy (Even if Greg isn't always 100% and takes some minor injuries), I think we have to be right up there with OKC for the top spot. Were still young and I think most of our players will get better each season.

All kinds of cap space. Imagine that team with Bosh, or....eeek.....Lebron?

Yeah, but imagine if you will, the Thunder take Lopez instead of Westbrook and then draft Tyreke Evans last summer. Scary scary team.

Jesus bloody Christ.

We have a PREVIOUS ranking in this? This isn't a one time thing?

This is the stupidest bit of sports writing I've ever heard of.

So now, current useless espn power rankings aren't enough. We are now supposed to follow our ranking in some future world that will never exist?

Awesome ESPN. You've done it again. You made something totally useless, even more useless.

This might actually be worse than the fake press conferences they use to broadcast.

Maybe I'm just really cynical, but I couldn't help but imagine your response if we were ranked number 1 (like we were during the summer). I somehow imagine it being a bit more positive.

Miami :rolleyes2: they've got Wade and little else of note besides cap room

what is this list supposed to be measuring again? Next year? The next 5 years???

okc has a brighter future then portland... the only hope is they cant afford to max green, durantula, and westbrook

whats the opposite of the midas touch?

despite a terrible run with injuries this season Portland sits all of 2 games behind OKC in the playoff race. Now that the club is semi-healthy, expect the cream to rise to the top... I'd welcome a matchup with them in the playoffs

Oh do you?

What are you basing this absurd prediction on? What exactly have I said in the past that led you to believe I celebrate ESPN's super future power rankings?

I don't even give a fuck about the "real" power ranking, let alone one from the future that will never exist.

What are the power rankings for the year 2057? (fingers crossed)

Settle down.

Can anyone with Insider tell us? It's probably in the article's introduction.

And Ornerynormous is right--this whole thing really pisses me off. I'm going downtown right now to kick someone's ass.

The Thunder might have a higher "future power rankings", but they also have to keep those players.

Their owner right now isn't paying a lot out to their talent. Let's wait and see if Clay Bennett is willing to spend the money to keep Durant, Westbrook, Green, Harden and Maynor.

Plus, and I know this might sound like I'm being a homer, but considering we're only 4 games worse (in the L column) than the Thunder, and we've had to deal with Oden and Joel being out for most of the season, Batum being out for most of the season, Travis being out for most of the season, Rudy missing 19 games, and Brandon missing almost 20 games, I'd say a healthy Portland team would beat out the Thunder.

But that's the key. Health.

Yeah, that's gonna happen.

Especially since they don't have "all kids of cap space" either.

The love affair with this OKC team by is ESPN is almost as ridiculous as the one by some so-called Blazer fans on this board. Even people in OKC aren't as excited about the Thunder as Mixum - judging by their attendance.

The factors that make up the rankings are something like: revenue generated, drafting history, management team, young talent, and cap flexibility

If ESPN's #'s are to believed, they're at 98.5% capacity (which even inflated, is top 10 in the NBA)

I agree, if ESPN was so sure on our power rankings, then why are Blazer highlights when we win , are always 20 minutes into the show while other teams are within the first 5 minutes?

Not to mention OKC lost tonight. I wonder what this means to their 2017 ranking.

(they were 16th last week)
