Update for those of us out of the area, and unable to listen please.

Quick just exchanged texts with Pritchard - "34 is better than 44 and not tied into any other deal"

- No other deal tied to the second round pick swaps. Basically it comes down to #34 > #44

- Working on a big time deal. Other team has backed off a bit but KP is reviving those talks.

- JP's contract and Miller's contract are very attractive to other teams.

- The trade would dramatically change the Blazers. "Earth shattering"

Quick mentioning Miller was a tell. Nash or Chris Paul? Why else would the Blazers want to trade Miller?

I think it is Chris Paul.

He says this deal "is earth shattering," and "will change the Blazers dramatically." But the other team has "backed off for now."

Is Camby's contract attractive or does that whole base year thing kill that idea?

Camby has two years on his deal, so it's not as attractive to a team looking to stay under the cap (like PHX and New Orleans ;) )

I just get the feeling this trade is about Chris Paul.

Me too. I think Collison showed New Orleans a lot, and although Monty Williams seems like a good young coach, he's not somebody you hire if you think you're going to be making runs at titles in the near future.

I'm positive Chris Paul doesn't want to spend his prime playing for an organization more concerned about money than winning.

Hints:

Under contract for a lot of years. $13-16 mil a year.

That rules out Bosh... hmmmmmmm God Dammit I'm all of the sudden interested in the Blazers again!

Whoever it is though, it wasn't sounding too promising at the moment. :(

But Quick did think the Blazers would be very active.

You know what, it has to be Chris Paul.

Who was the guy KP was screaming for the Blazers to take in the 2005 draft? Chris Paul. I might buy that hypothetically KP would rather have Paul over Roy. Paul brings all the high character while being a better talent imo.

I don't think it's very likely, but give it a shot. CP3 would save Pritchard's job for the next decade.

New Orleans isn't going to be a championship-type team anytime soon, and they can pay Darren Collson as a rookie for 3 more years and get decent production while they rebuild with young players and get under the cap with Peja expiring and Miller/Joel worth almost $14 million after the season. I do wonder if this deal would be more realistic near the trade deadline, though.

:sigh:

I can't really begrudge KP having a little fun on his way out the door......but raising our hopes like this is kinda cruel.

Well I am not going to get my hopes up anymore. The team seems to have backed off and I think they have for good. KP was probably playing stubborn ball again. Oh well, he won't be here much longer if he is to get fired, maybe our next GM will take some risks.

NO isn't trading CP3. They're already having trouble getting decent attendance. Why the hell would the trade away the only guy who can draw fans?

Because if they are having trouble drawings fans, then clearly he isn't doing a good enough job drawing fans. So they scrap it, save money, and build young.

Because like you say, they don't even draw well with Paul. I think it would be stupid of them, but look at who their owner is.

I can think of a few reasons.

1) To get under the cap and save $25-30 million in salary.
2) Because Chris Paul may not want to spend his prime years playing for a cheap organization with no chance at a title.

I know Monty is a big fan of Batum. Anyone else know who else he has liked a lot, or seen a lot of promise in on the Blazers?

Winning draws fans.

Yeah, CP3 means they're more likely to win, but sometimes you just can't afford a player. Combine that with having a very capable guy stepping in and you get a scenario where a star being traded isn't out of the question. Probably not happening, but it sounds like the team was at least willing to talk.

No base year for Camby...his salary didn't go up 20% or more. As for attractive, it's 2 years at around 11M a year. Meh.
