The Hornets are also in the middle of being sold so any jettison of expenses is what the new owners are looking for.

The new owner is VERY rich and has already said the current contract situation doesn't both him at all.

Deron Williams

"It stinks that these things happen in the NBA," Williams said Friday, one day after the Jazz dealt close friend and starting shooting guard Ronnie Brewer to Memphis for a protected 2011 first-round draft choice.

This particular trade, however, left Williams particularly offended — so much so he questioned the team's thinking and suggested it could influence the length of his future with the franchise.

The All-Star point prefaced Friday's remarks by saying, "I haven't really got nothing much good to say about the trade, so ..."

He hardly stopped there.

"I think if we made a trade, it would be something a little different than that," Williams said after morning shootaround before Friday's game against Golden State.

"You know," he added, "you look at all the teams that are getting better around the West, and we essentially get worse, if you ask me."

Asked how that might impact his long-term thinking, the answer from Williams — who clearly was miffed someone so close was let go — was terse.

Story continues below
"That's why I signed a three-year deal," said Williams, who could have extended for as many five seasons, but instead in 2008 chose three guaranteed starting with this season with a player option for 2012-13.

Williams said it was "pretty safe" to say teammates shared his frustrations

BTW-why would a GM tell the press about a potential blockbuster trade that is potentially in the works?

The Memphis Grizzlies offered O.J. Mayo(notes) as part of a package for Paul recently, but talks went nowhere. League sources believe the New Jersey Nets are willing to part with the No. 3 pick and every player on their roster except for center Brook Lopez(notes) to obtain Paul. Also, the Portland Trail Blazers – who’ve long targeted Paul – are expected make a bid for Paul prior to the draft, a source said.

Ok so new jersey is giving up #3 and harris ( but no cap relief)

Memphis gives up OJ mayo but prob no cap relief

so far i think we are in the lead

Using the same logic to those that have complained about Harris, why would they want Miller? I am guessing they could turn Harris for Miller pretty easily if they just wanted a shorter contract.

I put Devin Harris in the deal because he has a positive value contract. No doubt New Jersey would be interested in Paul. With him on board with Lopez and Favors plus a new billionaire owner, that team looks pretty good. As it sits, they are going to really have to make a sell for a major free agent to sign with them.

I take Batum over Gallinari, but would definitely take Gallinari and a 15M trade exception over Nic if I were the Hornets.

If Monty really liked Batum that much, we would probably do some tweeking to just a simple Collison for Nic trade. That is definitley not the trade rumored though.

Favors ain't going to New Jersey if they get Paul, that pick wold be going to New Orleans.

If they rejected a deal for OJ Mayo, I doubt they'd be enticed by Batum. Gotta offer Greg + pieces probably to get them to even return a call.

Alright, Oden, Batum, JPEC, Miller, for Paul and Emeka

I would do it

It confims that the blazers have/or will make an offer for Paul (very earthshattering and a job saver)

What team won't make an offer for CP3? Hardly earth shattering that the Blazers will make an offer.

I probably would also. But I'd like it much more if Nic were replaced by Rudy and/or Bayless.

It confirms that "a source" said so. Maybe that source is one Jason Quick.

@WojYahooNBA: Minnesota offering Jonny Flynn and two first-round picks (16 and 23) to Indiana for a package that includes the 10th pick.

That is two trades so far that we have heard of where Memphis was trying to move OJ. Maybe the only way to get Gay to re sign is to move Mayo out?

So Joel, Nic, and Miller are now worth more than OJ Mayo or the #3 and Harris?

Really?

For Paul? Nope, not happening. Batum needs to be in there.
