So if you want to know how much the Nets like Danilo Gallinari, understand this: he will get a private workout--just him--on Thursday afternoon. On Thursday morning, Anthony Randolph will have to go up against tough guy J. J. Hickson. No tough guy competition for Gallinari.

According to Chad Ford, Knicks don't like him at 6. From what I've read, Clippers and Bucks are looking for guards and Air Jordan is not going to draft international.

Good chance he falls to 10.

Too scared to play against other competition?

I'll be honest, I don't really like the sound of him asking for a private workout (different from Sean's private workout, of course - he wanted to be around John Lucas).

. . . but why?

Why would the Nets give him a private workout? What do they hope to learn that they can't discover better in a joint workout? Do the Nets plan to break the rules and work him out with current Nets to see how he'd fit?

did Gallinari demand a private workout? If so, why?

I don't care about his private workout. Gallinari is being praised for his outstanding basketball IQ and I want to see him as a Net.

I believe he demanded a private workout because him or his people are afraid he won't react well against someone with tough defense. Just an assumption, though.

Will this guy even play in the NBA next season? How would anyone know if he's just going to pull a Fran Vasquez?

I hate the handlers that so many of these international players have. This reminds me of Yi last year.

He seems pretty convincing in this interview:

I can't imagine him falling to 10, I certainly wouldn't let him fall that far if I had a top 10 pick. Picking him would make it much easier to let Richard Jefferson go in a trade, I'd definitely take him if I were the Nets, and I really hope that the Blazers snap him up if he somehow falls to 13 and we still have that pick.

Roy, Fernández, Gallinari, Aldridge, Oden will be sick in a few years (and will be very good in two).

They'd have two very good scoring guards, so Gallinari could play point forward. Probably better than TMac.

Im not convinced at all with Danilo. Is he explosive? or a soft european player who just shoots? Im wondering 'cause I havent seen him play yet.

He's a superb talent, but he's still rather raw and he's being put up so high in mock drafts mainly because of his potential. He's very skilled, fearless, a good leader. Definitely not just a soft European.

Where is his potential? He's not athletic at all and from what I've seen, the way he takes it to the cup is wayy too soft for the NBA. He can shoot but I don't think he's a pure shooter. I just can't stand foreign players (Especially European)

Yup, a couple of times the past season in the Euroleague. Same for Batum.

He's definitely not athletic, there's no argument on that subject. Gallinari is an excellent floor general, he's huge for a point guard and still has great handles and passing skills, and superb court vision. Don't you think he can potentially be a match-up nightmare for all 30 teams? Obviously, he still needs to work on his game and add weight, but unlike many other European prospects, he's not a 4 or a 5 so weight isn't a huge issue for him. He's aggressive, but silky mooth; he makes driving to the basket look easy, which may give you the impression that he's soft. Instead of ignorantly hating him for no reason, wait 'till you see the kid play some games in the league before judging him. I'm not his biggest fan either, but there's no ignoring his talent.

he can shoot and we need one of those...high bb iq...bye bye boki if we draft him...

my picks:
danilo gallinari - shooting/bb smarts/tall for position (can create matchup problems for other team but for us as well bec of his limited quickness/athleticism)
kevin love/maresse speights - inside scoring
joe alexander - leon powe/brandon bass-type utility/energy guy who can give you points and offensive rebs inside; has a "maniacal" work ethic everybody says...
brandon rush - perimeter defense/shooting
nicolas batum - athletic sg/sf (the way he plays reminds me of a young tmac); slow on his feet on defense
lester hudson - ferocious defender/competitor, scoring

i like gallinari, alexander and hudson because they seem to be the strongest mentally...

Sounds like Ginobli (I know Argentinian, but played in Europe).

Manu is a beast and he is very athletic. Not all like Galliniari sounds.

I'm all for drafting him if he's available. He can actually help fill up the arena!

Bunch of italians at the Izod LOL

Almost sounds like another Zoran Planinic.

And then somewhere in the world, cpaw jolted out of his slumber.

Westbrook or Gallinari @ 10, Hickson @ 21.

I thought you wanted Lester Hudson at 21.

Kiki has scouted Gallinari at least twice. I am sure that Rob Meurs, the chief international scout, has seen him a lot more than that. They have reviewed tapes, etc. This is almost always the final step. Nets also attended a private workout for Sean Williams last year. It's not shocking. As of now, he has scheduled two workouts: the Nets and Knicks. After that, he will make a decision whether to do more. What does that mean? He wants a guarantee. Who's his agent? Daivd Falk, who has a tendency to get what he wants.

As for how he plays, there is video of him on YouTube, which has a search button by the way. He isn't Zoran. He isn't Manu Ginobili either. He is a 6'10" point forward and looking at his body compared to that of other 19 year olds in the draft, he is a lot more physically mature than most of the younger players in the draft. He is not the stringbean that Jordan, McGee, Randolph and Green are. He is also the son of a professional athlete and that counts. Take a look at the Lakers: Walton, son of Bill; Farmar, son of Dodger Ron Farmar, Bryant, son of Jellybean. They all developed faster, were more mature quicker. He knows what to expect. Besides he has been a professional himself for four years.
