In his defense they hardly went to him tonight. He was double figures in rebounds. I give Sac credit they play him tuff when he one on one but they definitely didn't play thru him

There is no defense only excuses

While a move would be nice, I don't want to end up mortgaging the future for now when unless its a blockbuster trade we aren't going to contend for a title this year. The Pelicans essentially did that with the Cousins trade and that might end up biting them in the ass hard.
I can somewhat see where you are going with that but let's be honest a move would involve CJ and I don't see that as mortgaging the future. Now if it's CJ and Collins and Simons and multiple picks I could see the concern there. But I don't see how moving CJ alone changes our future much. Worst case scenario even without him I think we are still a first round and out team. Its frustrating and there is no easy answer other than its time to do something.

Are you serious?!?!

Then ran exactly ZERO plays for him. The guards abandoned getting him the ball after Dame made two terrible passes to the other team early. Even then, hes still trying to rebound and defend for everyone on our side. Lazy bastard? What the hell? What is he supposed to do.......?

I don't think your going get a lot takers for CJ and his 25 million dollar contract in a trade. If you trade do it for the future.

I agree. This loss was not on Nurk. Not even close. The scheme had everything to do with our loss tonight.

And CJ. And Turner. And missed FTs.

While i'm not panicking at all, I kind of expected this loss for reasons I posted earlier, the team looks out of sync when it comes to the do or die moments. Thats on Stotts because that comes down to coaching and "muscle memory" and if we are that out of sync then its Stotts job to coach that out of the players and he isn't doing that.
Do or die moments? We’ve won 3 straight OT games, 2 on the road.

No, I agree Stotts didn't go to him. Big Surprise

Yea but look at the last 4 of 5 games we have lost that have been close recently. At the end everyone looks confused on D and offensive as well. If it wasnt' for Dame just saying "fuck it" we would be so screwed.

It really depends on the trade but CJ's value is probably the lowest it will be at the moment and a bad package for CJ isn't a good thing. Terrance Ross, Augustine and a heavily protected 1st that won't convey for a few years, anything along those lines is not a good thing for us imo.

Tough loss, it’s hard to win on the road. Back to back. And they play with a lot of energy, we have great chances but nurkic and chief missing key FTs, and they are just more hungry than us. Next one Cleveland at home: must win game and Big night for CJ

I'm sure this was mentioned earlier in the thread, but with Dame's 35 points tonight, he crossed over the 12,000 career points threshold as a Blazer. Way to go Dame!

Only 550 more points to go to catch Aldridge. I'm looking forward to that night!

I definitely agree on that example but I also suspect that even with his slump he has more value than we believe at this moment due to our personal fan frustrations.

Layman starting play some really good basketball lately.

Shooting 11-15 for .733 in the last 2 games and one of misses was a dunk.

On the other side, 9-33 for .272 for MeJ in the last 2 games.

Call me crazy, but couldn't a few of MeJ's shots gone to Jake?

I disagree with this very strongly. CJ would be fine as a 6th man but as a #2 option who avgs 20 a game and shoots as efficiently as he does, how is that miscast?

I don't think we trade CJ this year unless we get a great offer. He is in a giant slump and his value probably hasn't ever been lower, I think we explore a trade for him in the off seasons. ET needs to go but I still wouldn't give up assets to get him off the team just cut his minutes and hope that next year his giant expiring makes a team want him for FA space that year.

* last thing first: the notion that somehow Turner's contract will be more trade-able when it's expiring is bogus. Olshey was the biggest idiot in 2016, but he wasn't the only stupid GM. The NBA will have an ocean of expiring contracts next season and it will be light-years away from a seller's market

* I really don't know why so many people are clinging so hard, in their minds, to Portland's 2019 first round pick (I don't mean you Rhal). I'd move it in a micro-second to get Turner in another uniform. If you're worried about Portland missing out on something, maybe you should check out the last 5 times Portland added a player with a pick in the 20's:

22 Victor Claver
22 Elliot Williams
21 Nolan Smith
26 Caleb Swanigan
24 Anfernee Simons

not exactly a ringing endorsement for value

*******************************************************************

I wish people would quit saying CJ is in a slump or that he's an efficient shooter. Neither assertion is true.

eFG%:

2014-15 .511
2015-16 .517
2016-17 .544
2017-18 .506
2018-19 .517

TS%:

2014-15 .534
2015-16
.544
2016-17
.585
2017-18
.536
2018-19
.544

he's basically right at his norms. He had a career year in 16-17 that looks like an aberration, but he's been real consistent otherwise. Considering that the league average for TS% is right around 55%, saying he's "efficient" is clearly false

now, it's true he's way off in 3 point% this year. But his FG% and 2ptFG% are at career highs. But that's the way it goes for lower tier players. It's like bop-a-mole...one thing will go up but another will go down

Would it be better if we were blown out? Can’t win every game.

Completely agreed that although Olshey f***d up the most, he wasn't the only offender and there will be a lot of other bad contracts that are ending.

As for a 20's Draft pick, they haven't been great and I don't think that should get in the way of a trade....but at the same time, there has been value in the 20's. We just haven't been the recipient of it.

2009: Victor Claver....picked just ahead of Casspi, Taj Gibson and DeMarre Carroll.
2010: Elliot Williams...not much right after. Damian Jones, Jordan Crawford....and Hassan Whiteside and Lance Stephenson early in the 2nd.
2011: Nolan Smith...this gets ugly. Farid, Mirotic, Reggie Jackson, Cory Joseph...and Jimmy Butler right after Smith.
2017: Caleb Swanigan...just ahead of Kumza and not far ahead of Josh Hart.
2018: Anfernee Simons....Landry Shamet selected 2 picks later.

Damn, the whole 'at least Olshey is good at the Draft' is not exactly full of merit recently.

And the two games before that Jake was 4-10 and 1-4 while CJ was 12-20 and 10-14. What is your point? easy to cherry pick stats. I am not a CJ fan, never have been, but Layman is not better then Moe and ET, so not sure what all the love is. For every good game Jake has had this year, he has had two games where he disappears. A big part of the fan base for some reason forgets those games.

You'll notice I didn't suggest Jake get CJ's shots when he was 5-14. If Jake was 10-35 or something like that while CJ was shooting well with only a few shots, I'd suggest CJ get some of Jake's shots.

This isn't difficult.

Well Meyers was 4-5 Maybe some of Jakes shots should have gone to him.

Are you familiar with the notion of sticking with the hot hand? Nobody is saying Jake is a super-star....but he is capable of getting hot. The issue is why Stotts is so reluctant to to take advantage of what he does well. Stotts just doesn't adapt on the fly.
