IIRC, the infamous Stephen A. Smith predicted the Brooklyn Nets were an instant championship contender after that off-season.

Quote from ESPN 10/28/13:

"It's all about the dollars. And no one's spending it but Prokhorov. The Russian magnate may have been coaxed by David Stern into quieting down the smack talk, but that doesn't change what he believes:
His Nets are legitimate title contenders. They have a chance to knock off the Heat.
Anything less, in all probability, will be deemed entirely unacceptable.
And Brooklyn wouldn't have it any other way."

Steven A is an idiot for plenty of other reasons but that quote can be read so Prokhorov believes they're contenders; not Steven A.

On the topic of the Nets failure to be a decent organization post Kidd and Carter years, I really don't understand how a team can be so poorly run. For example, I'm not a GM but I sure as hell would not have dealt a lottery pick for Gerald Wallace, I would never have traded for Joe Johnson, and I certainly would not mortgage my future for a couple aging stars from the previous generation. It's just maddening to see people this incompetent run a professional basketball team.
They got hold of a bona fide star - Deron Williams. They were desperate to make him feel like they were competitive as he was about to become a UFA. A lotto pick doesn't convince him to stay - a healthy in-his-prime Gerald Wallace certainly does. Unfortunately for them, Wallace was a bit past his prime, and the fall that happened soon after the trade was a precipitous one for him. But, make no mistake, 2 years before the trade Gerald was an absolute stud. Regardless, the trade worked in that Williams re-signed with them. If they keep the draft pick, they very well could have lost their best player for nothing. Something that causes angst in these parts.

As for the Celtics trade, sure it was a huge gamble. But, with one fell swoop they went from irrelevant to relevant - something the owner desperately wanted. Yes, there are long term consequences of these decisions, but they weren't "stupid." I'm sure some Nets fans would say that the Blazers haven't been relevant since Rasheed Wallace was here, and we traded him for peanuts, and he went on to win a championship with Detroit. How could we be so dumb? Perspective.

See, I thought the Deron Williams trade was a bad deal even. They sent a stud PF prospect, a decent PG and two picks for him. Yeah, at the time Deron was a top 3ish PG but he was also known to be kind of a diva because of what happened between he and Sloan.

Also, Wallace was pretty much finished when he was with us, we all saw that. Why they'd appease D-Will with him (also gave him the same contract Batum received iirc) was stupid. That's about as horribly run as you can get.

Also, WE WERE run terribly until KP started drafting well for us, then everything fell apart there and now we are run fantastically in comparison to a large market team.

The Nets went for gold and that's admirable but they went for it in the worst way possible, chemistry and fit were damned. At the deadline they should've dealt Lopez and Thad for anything they could get (most likely expirings/rookie-sophomore/picks) so they could properly start over but they didn't have a GM so I guess they can still do that this summer.

In addition to NBATV and KGW, the game will also be televised on the YES network. You'll be stuck with the awful Nets announcers, but that's why the mute button was invented.

I hate direct tv so much. Im paying $70 a month for a sports package and I dont have nba tv. And they couldnt add my league pass subscription to my direct tv account because I didn't order it through them.

This could be a trap game. After coming out victorious in 2 emotional wins, this could easily be a letdown game, especially if the Blazers are looking ahead at the Thursday game against the Rockets, whom they are fighting against in the race for a playoff spot.
I was hesistant to click the poll...just seemed like a jinx I'd have an imaginary impact on

Well, that truly sucks. Is Frontier FIOS an option where you live? I get all the Blazer games in HD, plus NBATV, Yes, Root, all the ESPNs, etc and a bunch of hockey, baseball, fishing and golf shit I never watch.

Just finished having dinner with Olshey, McGowen, @Charcoal Filtered and @JFizzleRaider . Heard lots of interesting things about the future of the Blazers but unfortunately I'm not allowed to say anything.

Now sitting up at the view top of the 200 level in the Isle of Misfit Press. Hilariously, I'm up here with some of the NY press corp. As soon as the Blazers get a 30pt lead I'll start of the Trump Sucks cheer for them.

So in other words they said, Sly you can have dinner with us but shut the .... up and don't say a word.

I got to walk around the old Memorial Coliseum tonight. Only one in there, bare cement floor, looks so small now, sooooo many memories,

How sad, the Blazers just issued a lost child alert at the Moda. Name Meyers L. If spotted we're suppose to notify security.

Yes, you should see how cool the Space Needle and the Seattle skyline looks on them.

NOT FUNNY!!1!1!

In all seriousness, I heard that the league is moving closer and closer to having sponsors on their uniforms.

I cannot tell you in words how much I DON'T want that to happen. Blazers uniforms with Dunkin' Doughnuts logos on them? No thanks.
