They got within 9 points the majority of the time they was down from 14 to 20 points that 2nd half so really they wasn't in the game at the end.
Going to respectfully disagree. 9 with 5 mins left is in the game. 14 at half and 12 at the beginning of the 4th is in the game.

Where in the holy hell were the in-game adjustments? How about leave 6% 3-pt shooter Oubre open all night long? How about make Green the open man.....who didn't have a FG the entire game. How about make rookie Wiseman have to make more decisions.

Instead, I suppose the 'adjustment' Stotts made, was to go with the defensive juggernaut Kanter/Melo for the 4th quarter.

You just can't make this stuff up.... :banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2::banghead2:

i re-watched some of the Curry highlights.

for fucks sake we gave him the exact same defensive coverage ALL GAME LONG. Gave me visions of our sweep in the WCFs last year. Curry comes around a pick, big is in drop coverage, Curry hits a three. Kanter tried to come up on the screen but took horrific angles and Steph just blew by him.

Like if this is the first time playing Curry, OK, this is sorta forgivable. But we've gotten destroyed by this dude for like 6 straight years. Jesus, Terry. WTF man

They'll both make it. Easily. Name 6 better guards in the West. The key word being "better." Don't just list a bunch of guards from the West.

They might make it, they just won't play a minute... that I'd bet on!:smiley-beerchug:

Gotta feel bad for Harry. Dude is given a super small windows of opportunity, plays very well and right back to the dog house anyway
what message does it send to the team when hard work doesnt translate to PT? Melo has done nothing this year to earn these kinda minutes. It's a slippery slope

Public call-outs to motivate players is a sign of a poor relationship with your players. What call-out can only be made in public and not in private?

There's no call-out that can only be made in public. Some coaches use the media selectively to send pointed messages to players, including top-end coaches, like Popovich or Bill Belichick. I'm not convinced it means that there's a bad relationship, but I do think it should be done rarely. And by "call-out," I mean answering a question honestly that they would normally lie or be evasive about just to protect the player.

There is a huge difference between blaming the loss on the refs and discussing how poor of a job they did last night.

There were moving screens, pulling, and flopping all game long. And then they review a call to wipe out CJ's 3 because they finally called one? That was comical to me. Again it had no effect on the outcome, but they still were bad last night.

Dame was supposed to step up and take Steph on defense. This is the next step in the evolution of his game: stop hiding on defense and take the toughest one-on-one assignments.

I didn't mind watching Trent get some experience trying to guard Curry. He got embarrassed but it was still a good experience.

I agree its happened. I'm not sure if there's a way to tell if it's worked. Kawhi in San Antonio is someone who comes to mind.

Personally, I don't think the benefits of a public call-out are greater than the risks.

wut? that makes no sense

the Warriors didn't try to guard Dame with Curry. Sometimes they had Curry on CJ. Sometimes on Trent. Sometimes on Jones. But basically, they knew better than to force Curry into fighting all the screens set for Dame by bigs. It would be fucking stupid to run Curry into Nurkic/Kanter screens all night

and it would be fucking stupid to run Dame into a bunch of Wiseman/Loony/Green screens all night. The goal of opponents is to take Dame out of the game and out of his rhythm. Wear him down. No reason for Portland to give Dame defensive assignments that will accelerate the process of wearing Dame out

the Warriors are able to hide Curry on weak offensive players because they almost always only have one small, poor defender on the floor at a time, and that's Curry. But Portland has two in Dame/CJ and 3 if Melo is on the floor. No hiding in that lineup

I couldn't agree more.

This was one of those: Let's see how Melo is playing, then determine his minutes games. So apparently, if Melo is playing like shit, give him more minutes?

Just when I thought the NBA refs were past the obvious favoritism of the early 2000's, this game happens. Very one-sided officiating, which is super frustrating. In any sport, what you want from the refs is to call the game the same for both teams. That didn't happen last night, and it really killed my enjoyment of the game.

he played 18 consecutive minutes in the first half. CONSECUTIVE. in what universe is that a good idea?

To add on, he didn't even play in the 3rd quarter. But then somehow Stotts proceeded to play him the entire 4th quarter despite him doing nothing on the floor.

I'm so confused, what are these rotations? It's like he's pulling shit out of his ass to make sure Melo averages his 24 minutes on the season.

Absolutely no accountability for 8 years. So close to getting fired in 17-18, given a second chance and then PA dies. Jodi has been a good owner but has not put any pressure on management or the team. This level of continuity without any finals appearances is unprecedented.

Jerry Sloan on line #1

Jerry Sloan made multiple finals. Nice try though.
Sloan did coach the Jazz for eight seasons before they got to the finals though. This is Stotts' eighth season as head coach. I don't think that Stotts is better than Sloan or even necessarily as good but you have to think about the context of what you are saying. Sloan was the right example as the precedent for keeping Stotts and at this point his finals appearances don't matter.

this is 2021. fyi. not the 90s. coaches need to produce to be given this sort of job security. Only 3 coaches in the league have had a longer tenure than Terry with their current team right now:

- Pop
- Spo
- Carlisle

Call me when Terry accomplishes even a fraction of what these dude have on their resume.

Yeah, I'm not saying that Stotts' job shouldn't be in jeopardy, I was just saying that Sloan was a good example of the precedent being set. Also just because teams now fire coaches at the drop of the hat, doesn't mean it's the best strategy.

8 years you said. This Level is unprecedented you said. Sloan went well over 8 years without a finals appearance.
His first appearance was in his 9th year. Then he went 13 years without making it at all.
Sloan made 2 finals and lost both over 23 years as head coach.

Even if we give you Sloan, that is one coach in how many years of the NBA being active? You’re also implying they are on the same tier of coaches by using him as a comparisons. I have a hard time believing that.

I completely agree. I do not want to go the route of Jerry Sloan. Could you imagine getting to the Finals this year and next and then having Stotts for 12 more years?

(Substitue 'Terry' for 'Wayne')

Custodians of his legacy.

We got within 9 then what happened it's seem me we really got out play through that game and seems we never got a foot hold on the game. The warriors punch us right in the face and we didn't respond. So it felt we never was in the game no matter the runs we had and close we got just felt we never was in it that's my opinion.
