Game Thread GAME #63 - BLAZERS @ GRIZZLIES - MARCH 4, 2026 - WEDNESDAY - 5:00 PM - KUNP - BLAZERVISION

Why do the blazers never run plays to get Vit open 3 pointers. Other teams constantly get open 3’s against the blazers but we can’t figure out a play to get our supposed best shooters a clean shot or two a game.

We need to shot more threes if we are going to tank this game. We gain nothing being a ninth or tenth play in team

This is just like last year winning stupid games that absolutely mean nothing.

Man the Blazers jump at a lot of pump fakes and end up giving up open shots because of it

That is a crazy ejection
While it seemed like DC didn't go out of his way to swing his arms, the elbow to chin shot connected like it was MMA so I understand especially since he was the road player. It wasn't a dirty play, it just looked bad and the League is very image conscious.

These wins are fine. We aren't catching anybody in the lotto besides probably the Bucks who have no incentive to tank and are just now getting Giannis back. At the same time we're not going to end up with a better record than the Clippers, Hawks or Hornets.

Holiday haters are so dumb.
Don’t hate him he just does not fit into time line for this team to become better. He is an old player with a good likely hood of injuries that take extensive time to heal. He is not a long term piece for this team. He is a good piece to get a draft pick from a contending team like the spurs that have many trade picks.

The Spurs might not be the best example, they are so loaded at pG why would they want to add his salary?

Holiday didn’t get the memo we are tanking
Players never get that memo, management tanks by keeping their best players sidelined. Once the game starts guys generally give their best, which is what Jrue is doing. Its just that, even at 35, his best is better then most players including any other PTB guard on both ends. Too bad he missed so much of the season eh? I'd love to see what it would be like if Jrue and Deni could have a long stretch of good health together.... though at Holiday's age thats not necessarily in the cards.

Scoot with an off night i guess. realistically he doesnt need to be good this year but it would be nice to be excited about him

He’s a bust. This dude was considered generational point guard at one time. It’s to bad

So is Scoot officially a bust?
Too early for me to say that, but I'm officially off the train where he was the biggest reason I was watching the Blazers was to see his development. After a couple of good games immediately after his return from the injury, he's now back to where he was as a rookie. He's fouling a lot, missing layups, missing 3s badly, looking unexplosive, shooting all his layups right-handed and tentative on his attacks. Last night he fumbled a pass under the basket and instead of gathering and going up for the layup, he threw it to the corner to Jrue who luckily hit a 3.

I thought it was that he was in his own head, which in itself could be enough to end him as a real prospect, but now I'm wondering if there might be something behind the scenes.

First, the last couple of games, in particular, I felt he kind of just phoned in. He had more energy when he was on the bench with the injured hamstring. His effort just hasn't been there.

Then, a couple of games ago, Splitter turned to Blake Wesley in crunch time instead of Scoot. Just a few games earlier, Wesley got a minute of playing time and the Blazers seemed more interested in developing Sidy and Caleb Love. I honestly took that as a sign that they were going to release Wesley to put Love on the fulltime roster.

And Scoot played awful and uninspired in his return-home game at Atlanta.

Of course, that could be from losing confidence, but I noticed something else. Lamar and Calabro had been raving for about the first eight or so games of his comeback about every little thing Scoot did right, even if it was kind of a minor thing. Two games ago, Calabro started focusing not only on Scoot's problems shooting the 3 but how badly he was missing. After that, Scoot drove baseline for a layup in one game, got the defender on his back, but then, inexplicably, instead of just dunking or finishing a straight layup, he tried some fancy reverse that didn't even hit the rim. Just hit the backboard and bounced off.

"That's just weird," Hurd said. "That's like shooting an airball."

It just gives me the feeling that the broadcast team isn't as invested in Scoot all of a sudden and passing that onto the fans, kind of like getting everyone ready to depart the Scoot train, and they certainly know things that the fans don't and that they don't say on the air.

It wouldn't be surprising, either. If they aren't trading Jrue, with Dame coming back next year, Sharpe presumably being healthy, and Deni, too, the competition for minutes and the ball will be fierce. When Scoot's playing well, he's a great fit with that group because he does things those other guys don't, but he hasn't been doing anything to look any better than average for a couple of weeks straight now.

It kind of depresses me. I think the Blazers can extend Scoot's contract this summer. Watching him play right now and the level of regression, I can't make any good argument that extending him would be a good investment. I wonder if his representation has been told the Blazers are going another direction and won't be extending him. Or maybe Scoot just doesn't care for Portland and he's just playing out this deal or looking to move on somewhere else. Maybe he's seen the roster next year and doesn't see a place for himself. Whatever it is, something has changed in the last three weeks in the way Scoot's played, in the way Tiago has played him and the way the broadcast team has talked about him. Could be nothing. Could be coincidence. But, usually, when I see stuff like this, it means irreconcilable differences of some kind.

Off night? He needs to start showing something or we will need another PGOTF, he's stinking it up so far

a win and 85 of the 122 points on the backs of 3 players: a guard who will be 36 when next season starts; a SF who will turn 33 during next season; and a big who may not even be a Blazer next season. Not exactly showcasing upside in the "winning time now" season.

Blazers seems institutionally incapable of abandoning their fence-straddling and choosing between their dual-track obsession.

Dundon needs to bring a big broom on day 1 and clean house in a major way
