re-signing Melo was fucking stupid

since I did 2-man and 3-man lineups, might as well do 4 man-lineups organized by worst first:

pretty obvious common denominators.

Why I wonder? Could it be ball movement and might we see some kind of correlation with assist rate (last column):

sure looks like Melo is a net negative and the Melo-Kanter combo is toxic

Here is some more fun stats with Melo!

Check out the On/Off stats. Our ORTG craters from 117.4 to 105.1 with Melo on the floor. Our DRTG goes from 113.9 with Melo off the floor to 119 with Melo on the floor.

Dame, Kanter, and Gary also have terrible defensive on/off numbers but at least Kanter has a POSITIVE offensive on/off. Same with Trent. Same with Dame.

Look how fucking bad our offense is with Melo ON the floor. It's BY FAR the worst on the team for any rotation player (sidenote: Anfernee has been awful in his spot minutes). Even Rodney, who has barely played, has better on/off numbers.

It's hilarious. You actually cannot make this shit up.

Here is our on/off difference with Melo on the floor. I highlighted Melo's numbers but LOOK AT THIS SHIT. Our AST% goes down 21.3% with him on the floor. Our net rating is a fucking -17.4 with him on the floor. Our rebounding % is 10% less with him on the floor, and defensive rebounding HAS been a problem. Just look at his numbers and look at EVERYONE else. No one comes EVEN CLOSE. He's literally 3x as worse as Kanter.

I actually have so much respect for Daryl Morey and the Rockets. They saw now absolutely worthless he was and cut him after 7 games. We had this dude for an entire fucking season and we signed him BACK, and continue to play him 25+ MPG.

It's absolute fucking madness. The low hanging fruit, even before any Stotts/Olshey slander is to cut bait on Melo. Like holy jesus fuck.

Ant comes close... He's -15.7 with him on the floor.

Yeah, the difference is that Melo plays 2.5x as many minutes as Ant.

And Ant shouldn't be playing either, but he has been due to some injuries.

Also note that most of Anfernee's terrible on/off is due to his impact on our offense. He actually has a positive defensive on/off (if you can believe it).

Melo is horrible offensively, horrible defensively, and kills ball movement. How many more games are they going to give this before calling it a failed experiment? My guess is 65.

to be clear...this Melo issue has been pretty apparent over the last 2 or 3 seasons. That Olshey was blind to it to the point of re-signing hime, and that Stotts is blind to it to the point of playing him 25 minutes a game is infuriating
"Custodians of his legacy" is my new favorite phrase to mock Olshey with.

For the record, I was ground zero on "Cut Melo" island, going all the way back to last year. I will die on this hill.

No question about this. There is absolutely no reason to be playing Melo 25 mins a game.
