I would love to see Mika go, # 1 on the list, I just don't see how it is reasonably possible to happen. The guy has a NMC AND 5 more seasons remaining on his contract AND an $8.5M cap hit. He may be the one guy on the team I don't think is tradeable unfortunately.
K. Miller is a simple situation to me, as I only see two real options:
1. You determine he is good enough to play LD on the 1st pair with Fox, and you re-sign him long term.
2. You determine he is not good enough to play LD on the 1st pair with Fox, and therefore you must trade him.
I think # 2 is BY VERY VERY VERY VERY FAR the best option. It makes zero sense to me to re-sign him to play on the 2nd pair. I feel very strongly Schneider needs to be in the top 4 next season. I know +/- isn't the end all be all stat, and it isn't 100% apples to apples between Miller and Schneider, but Schneider is a +11, best on the whole team, meanwhile Miller is a -5. It is not smart asset allocation to have Schneider on the 3rd pair, he has to be a top 4 dman next season, which means Miller needs to move up with Fox OR he must be traded. I really see no other option. And remember, you either commit to Miller long term this summer, or he gets traded. The time for that decision is now, I think.
It's why I am advocating for K. Miller and Kreider to be traded this summer. Those are the guys I would target, while acknowledging everything should be on the table, and it is highly likely Mika is untradeable due to his contract/NMC.
