Things don’t look as bleak now for the future. Especially with Greentree, Aspinall and Battaglia coming. I would assume our GM will go with a high talent level center with his first pick and a solid lefty defenseman with some size with the second first round pick.
You want another potential part of the Rangers future, maybe in two seasons, I still say look at Brady Tkachuk. I really do not see him re-signing in Ottawa. Root for Ottawa to miss the playoffs this season, which will only make the rumors louder their captain Tkachuk may go.
Brady turns 27 in mid-September and has two more years on his contract after this one (UFA in the summer of 28). It would truly shock me if Tkachuk re-signed in Ottawa. The only way I can see it is if they offer him a contract that is so far and away better than any other team can offer based on having his rights, which gives the Sens an advantage, even then, I just don't see it. Not saying the only team, he could/would go to is the Rangers, but you know they'll be at the top of the list of teams making every effort to bring him in.
Brady’s dad and brother stirred the pot on the podcast about why his ice time is down by over a full minute this season, and how he’s being misused down the stretch by the Senators, who are in a four-way tie for the second wild card in the East (Capitals only 1 point back), with six games to play.
Now, Brady didn’t add to their commentary. But it’s difficult to believe that the Tkachuk family discussed this topic for the first time on a podcast. Surely, it’s been discussed behind the scenes, right?
Keith and Matthew took shots at Ottawa coach Travis Green, who, in turn, referred to it all as "white noise". It just comes with the territory with the Tkachuk's.

I wanted Tkachuk for a while. Now, pass. No need. I'd rather take my chances on Greentree, Aspinall and Battaglia developing into power forward types at a fraction of the cost. You are giving up at least 2 of them plus more to take Tkachuk. No thanks. We need to build a new young core.
