Right, my mistake. So the Bobcats were formed in 2004. Basically the point is that there are no new franchises in the NBA or really even close to being new. The Bulls not only had 2 expansion teams in 1996 (Raptors, Grizzlies) but a bunch of newer franchises plus a bunch of teams that were bad on top of that. To say that it was tougher to win 72 in 96 versus 72 in 2016 is incorrect in my opinion.

It's funny that you mention the other "newer teams" that existed in '96, considering the Hornets were .500, the Heat were above .500, and the Magic won 60 games that year with Shaq and Penny. The only one of the 88/89 expansion teams that wasn't any good was the Wolves, who played in the opposite conference from Jordan. And even with the two expansion teams, the league's worst team that year--the Grizzlies--won 6 more games than this years Seventy-Tankers. The bottom of the league is worse now than it was then. Tanking is blatant now; it basically didn't happen then. And resting stars? Never heard of the concept in '96. I understand that you have your opinion, and likely nothing I type will change it, but to suggest that there were more 'bad' teams in '96 is just not based in reality.

I didn't say there were more bad teams, the original point being made was that there should be an asterisk placed by the Warriors if they were to break the record because the league was so much tougher than. There are more average or above average teams now than there were that year as I pointed out in an earlier post. The current Sixers and Lakers would be 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league that year. There were 2 expansion teams which lowers the overall talent of the league as it lets guys in the league who previously the year before may not have been good enough to make an NBA roster. Now there are 2 more teams, more players are needed and the talent goes down a bit. Pretty simple idea.
I am taking nothing away from the Bulls I just had an issue with someone trying to take away from what the Warriors are doing this year. It would be an incredible accomplishment if they were to break the record.

There are only a finite amount of wins to go around. If Warriors and Spirs win 69+ games, then other teams will have fewer wins. Doesn't mean the makeup of other teams are worse this year.
