Should we rest our main rotation players for this game?

  • Yes. We need to tank for the 4th Seed so we can avoid San Antonio

Kings fired their smug coach after that debacle in Portland last night. Joerger always seemed like a slimy dude.

That opening should be pretty rewarding-- tons of young talent. Ownership/front office is a bit shaky, but what teams aren't?

Ettore Messina would be perfect for that job.

Or Luke Walton, tbh. That guy got thrown under the bus this year.

Actually wouldn't mind him as a potential Terry replacement. Wash some of that Laker stink off first, though

Leaves a bad taste in my mouth that we were trying to tank away from OKC. It better be because the coaches had already prepped for UTA and not because they think OKC is a worse matchup. I truly believe we are in a better position to advance now vs if we had gotten 4th

let me ask a question: if the Blazer coaches (and Dame) decided that giving an extra day's rest to the rotation players was the biggest priority and that the 1st round match-up didn't matter ....wouldn't they have done exactly what they did last night?

Joerger looks like the type of dude that sits on the couch while his wife gets plowed by the pool boy.

sure. but it also opens up the narrative for articles like this:

https://newsok.com/article/5628427/...en-thought-portland-did-its-best-to-avoid-okc

OK...but that article is filled with speculative bullshit. Blazers shouldn't concern themselves with that.

sometimes, people ought to take things at face value. Stotts explicitly said the priority was giving rest to the main guys after securing HCA, and especially resting Dame. And Dame himself said he wanted the night off. Apparently, some want to assume that everybody was lying and the real motive was to avoid OKC. In that game last night, Portland acted exactly like a team that didn't care who they played in the 1st round, but obviously reading between the lines led some to other conclusions

Especially since Lillard has specifically mentioned OKC as a team he would like to see in the playoffs.

he did say that didn't he

here's the thing though....Dame has to play well in this series. Portland doesn't 'have' to win, but Dame needs to play well to avoid a stigma about is playoff performance being applied to his career

career marks:

PER: regular season 21.4....playoffs 17.6 (9.5 last year)
TS%: regular season .573....playoffs .533 (.471 last year)
Assist Rate: regular season 29.5%....playoffs 24.2% (16.6% last year)
winshares/48: regular season .169....playoffs .082 (-0.062 last year)
BPM: regular season 4.0....playoffs 2.2 (-4.7 last year)

obviously, there are some significant mitigating factors here, not the least of which is management's failure to give Dame elite talent to help, or even any player capable of consistently running the offense. I don't think the coaches have done a good job of helping Dame either, but again, it's kind of hard to scheme CJ into being Paul George

bottom line though is Dame needs to bring it this season

They sure did. That team was all for the bench winning that game like that. Competitors compete.
Personally i want them to beat OKC and send them packing. Come out Sunday and win a game. If they do that then this will be a very fun series to watch.

Rooting to get a easyier matchup, even if you have to loose a game doesnt make you a fake fan. I wake up in the middle of the night to watch Blazers games, so never ever call me a fake fan again you understood?

Sounds like somebody needs a DVR...

A little context too. There is a vast difference between playoffs & regular season in terms of talent & intensity. Due to that, I'd expect that nearly all players' stats take a hit in playoff performances.

Was thinking the same thing. In years past i would have been all over digging up stats to see if that was the case.

Finally finished reading this thread. What an awesome game!

I don't know what's better though...

That awesome performance or all the salty tears of posters that wanted their team to lose.

I've said multiple times this season that I believe in being the best possible team you can be (unless you're eliminated from the playoffs). Most of the same posters who are whining are the same ones that thought the Blazers would regress this year, barely make the playoffs, and that the West was just too tough. Now you're complaining that they did too well? Some people are negative no matter what. It might actually be fun to look up some of your posts before the season.

it’s embarrassing that people would be afraid to play a team. These players and coaches aren’t afraid I hope. Bring it on. They got home court advantage. If they can’t beat OKC they aren’t doing much anyway.

Very much so. Cowardly shit if you ask me!

As in, with a personal attack. I'm not going into which personal attack is worse, because I don't care. It doesn't matter. It's against the rules, it got deleted, period. Quit with the misdirection and the self-justification. To paraphrase @dviss1--own your stuff. Don't worry so much about what the other guy is doing--just conduct yourself the way you're supposed to. It's not that complicated.

Hey now ladies.. I get in enough trouble round here! My name is Bennett and I ain't ennett....

Live is much better. I couldn't watch sports when the game is already over
The only sporting event I ever watch LIVE is the SuperBowl or whatever bowl game the Ducks are in. Other than that it's all DVR, all the time. Married with kids and travel year round for work, you learn to watch sports whenever you get a chance.

Biggie should try to work with Borris Diaw over summer.

They have a similar body shape and game style.

Personally watching recordings of games isnt even close to the same experience as watching them live.
I hear people say that, why? Shit this past weekend my daughter had 4 soccer games. I had the whole weekend off. Spent the whole time with my family enjoying it. Recorded the first two days of the playoffs, last two days of the Masters and the Timbers game. Watched them each evening when the family went to bed. Saturday, I actually recorded Game 1 and watched it that night.

It was no different then watching LIVE if you ask me.

Because Im different than you and how things feel and the enjoyment I get out of them in comparison to someone else is subjective? Ok thats snarky, I apologize!

Anyways. I think its just the way I enjoy sports, I love the “group” environment that comes with them. Whether its texting people live while its happening, or threads in here or, with friends or whatever. I mean I have watched recorded games, and usually if its the “same night” or whatever it can still be fine, but most of the time, watching a game way behind the rest of the world just changes the experience for me.

Totally agree. The main fun of sports is the excitement of the uncertainty of the outcome. Even if your team is down, there’s always the possibility of a great comeback. If I know that I can just fast forward to the end of the game or check my phone for the score, there’s no uncertainty and no excitement.

I totally agree I don’t see how people will have the motivation to watch a sports game when it’s finished already. I get what HCP is saying when he’s busy but fuck that I’ll just recap with highlights it’s not that serious to me to watch on dvr
